I can no longer abide the simpering voices of self-styled progressives -- people who once championed solidarity

Keith Thompson Sunday, May 22, 2005

Wow. This guy remembers a movement that I was able to identify with & participate in. A time when liberal wasn't anti-America. A movement meant to create a better place to live & to bring equality.

This may be the single best definition of modern conservatism I have ever read:
America must now focus on creating healthy, self-actualizing individuals committed to taking responsibility for their lives, developing their talents, honing their skills and intellects, fostering emotional and moral intelligence, all in all contributing to the advancement of the human condition.

It's a long piece, please take the time to read it. It's worthy of recognition.

Hang on a second. I'm going to tell you what's wrong in America today. This childish, self-righteous belief that anything that doesn't specifically agree with one's personal dogma is, by definition, anti-America. Grow up and let someone else have an opposing point of view, huh? That used to be America, didn't it?

I'd say that about sums it up.

Did you bother to read the article? It points out how liberalism has gone from a personal rights fight to a Marxist belief system which is, by definition, anti-American.

The American Left has lost its way for sure. So has the Right, though.

The Center will rise again! McCain, Leiberman, Bayh, Guiliani, Biden, Nelson...these are the politicians who represent America. Not Frist, Schumer, DeLay, Feinstien, or Ashcroft.

Yes, they will. No doubt there will be a reason why that is "anti-America" too.

Oh, and yes Gonz, I did read the article. Interesting POV, don't agree with it completely but some of it's right on the mark. I don't have any time for the far left anymore either, haven't for a long time. I guess we should just kill 'em all, unamerican bastards. But the self-righteous breast beating needs to stop. It's boring and it's wrong. Simply because my take on politics has shifted over the years in no way makes people who don't agree (regardless of how stupid they might be) "anti-America," although they may certainly have a different idea of what America is than I do.

Famous Moderates in History is a book which will never be written because moderates have no stance & believe in nothing.

The American people voted GW in & added to the (R) base in the Senate & the House only to have the Senate act as though it's 1978 again. The base is aghast at the Republicans & anybody else who's paying attention is wondering when they're gonna get their moneys worth. Frist & Co have said they didn't sign off on this deal...let's hope they have the balls to call for a vote on all the nominees.

Just the largest block of voters. Go too far from the center and see what happens in the next election.

THey voted these people into office knowing full well what the probabilities were. Amicans want a decided turn to the right.

Go ahead, call a vote on all of them. 3 will not be filibustered, per the deal struck by the 14 sane members of the Senate. The rest will be 'bustered.

Roosevelt, Truman & Kennedy are moderates?

McCain, and Leiberman, I can see, but not Biden.

Apparently it doesn't matter anymore who's voted in on the majority, the
Minority will always have the power anymore.

I remember when it was kinda hard to tell the Dems from the Reps.
Most everybody in there had common sense. Now mostly, they feel
a need to define the party lines rather than just do what is the right thing.

If Leiberman ran for pres. I'd probably be inclined to vote for him.

McCain should be removed from office. He's gone nuts. Between payback to Bush for the 2000 campaign & now getting involved in the sports drug war, he's overstepping his authority.

I contend they voted for the lesser of two evils in their eyes.

W has disappointed me, and I'm a card-carrying Republican. Still, I'd vote for him tomorrow again over whatever his name was...Kerry, that's right.

As to what Americans want, most don't even know what they want. And since when did Warshinton care what Americans want anyway?
