HOUSTON, Texas (AP) -- Andrea Yates, who is serving a life sentence for drowning her children in a bathtub three years ago, has been hospitalized because she is refusing to eat, her attorney said Tuesday night.

I don't see why they don't let her. She killed five of her own flesh and blood. And the tax payers get to support her ass in prison. It's just not right.

For the sake of argument...

MAKE her live. Force feed her. GIve her the absolute best medicine available. Keep her awake & aware & play video's of her children playing & laughing & being jovial 24/7/365.

That sounds like a pricey option, I'd rather not have to pay for her time in prison......let her die.

Sometimes death is just too easy.

Let her live, let her tell her story of what she did, why she did it. (no $ gains thoo).

does she even reget it then? i don't know the exact story behind the drama, but if you kill 5 of your own kids, you're not exactly fond of them...

Or sane in any way or form. Her condition may not have been apparent to anyone. No one kills 5 childern easily, let alone their own. Takes some unimaginable screw up of the mental psyche.

She may have been depressed beyond repair.

she was mental. she thought that she was "saving them" by killing them. that god wanted her to do it. i think if you let her live the only thing it would do would be to remind her of her illness. if she is now lucid and can't live with her actions i say let her die.

Russell Yates said his wife was struggling to deal with the three-year anniversary of the drownings in June, her 40th birthday on July 2 and the issues in their marriage.
Issues? 40th Birthday? Yeah, that womans got alot to deal with. Is she dead yet?

wow...i'm surprised the guy stayed married for another 3 years to a woman who killed his kids.

Andrea Yates' attorney, George Parnham (search), who continues to handle her criminal case, said he was certain she was aware of the filing
"My only interest is for her well-being, and I am going to make sure she gets through this process as softly as possible," he said. "It's just one of those facts of life."

some people i will never understand. it's just one of those facts of life that she drowned her children, so why whould we pity her now?

She doesn't deserve to live. If you really want her alive, post huge posters of her children all over her cell so she wakes up and goes to sleep looking at the kids she murdered. Personally I think she should die in the same manner that she killed her kids.

Does this mean this lunatic is going to get out of prison?!

I hope someone clubs her to death if and when that happens.

Most likely, yes. The psychiatrist who lied on the stand, however, needs to go to jail for life in her place if she does. The DA needs to be fired for not checking more into this as well. Lazy people in these kind of positions are woefully inadequate. Money isn't the issue...justice is.

Apparently the new thinking is that if you would confess to a crime of murder you are thought to be attempting to commit suicide or at least harm to oneself. That is automatic proof that one is at least partly insane and therefore incapable of making ones own decisions. Confession tossed out as insane ramblings.

I seem to remember a case where a death row inmate actively sought to dismiss all appeals and ask that the execution be carried out because he was tired of living. The anti death penalty advocate legal groups agrued and won a case wherein they could keep defending him against his wishes because his desire to hasten his death was irrational and insane behavior.

The ruling by the 1st Court of Appeals returns the case back to the trial court for a new trial.

I doubt she'll get outta prison....they'll just convict her again.
