I have been letting my kids go to Sunday School on a bus that comes around every week, they seem to really enjoy it...figured what can it hurt.

Today I went on the bus with them so I could see them in their Christmas pageant...which was fun...

till they started singing bus songs...and I looked over at my five year old, and he was enthusiastically singing his heart out... "We are Soldiers of the Lord's Infantry! Grab your Bibles and follow me! If I die in the battlezone, grab me up and ship me home! Lay my Bible across my chest, and tell my Lord I did my best!

:alienhuh:

It's a Baptist Church...I never thought...I did the whole Sunday School/Church camp thing and I know there are an awful lot of kinda whacked songs...Onward Christian Soldiers and the like...that's one thing but this song really made me wonder :eek6:

it does seem a little extreme there but there are hymns and books of the Bible that seem to have that same view :eek6: the church ive been to wasnt extreme like that :alienhuh:

hmmm...this one is timely http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/h/s/hswatcry.htm
How shall we answer terror’s cry,
The cunning blade, the flaming sky?
When murderous spite knocks down our door
And violence breaks upon our shore,
O let us come and look to You
To know Your will—what shall we do?
When Satan whispers, “Hate your foe,
Now take your vengeance—draw the bow,”
Protect us from the tempter’s guile,
The lying voice, the evil smile.
O let us come in trust to You,
To hear the word we know is true.

Sounds like a rework of a famous airborne/ranger marching cadence.

Might want to consider no Sunday School at all.

I'd felt that the little extra bit of guilt and the 'how to be a good person in 10 easy steps' lessons...as well as the education/insight has served me well in life, and since they showed an interest and enjoyed themselves, I saw no harm in it...now I guess I'm just second guessing myself.

I wouldn't send my child to a church without looking deeply into it myself first. We know that a spiritual experience can be powerful and life changing but the other side of that is that religious abuse by non spiritual fanatics can also be life changing and turn people off from true spirituality forever. That doesn't just go for church though, I look deeply into anything and everything i'm getting my daughter involvd in so that i know exactly what it is.

I don't know Les. I don't have a faith, but I understand you wanting your kids to have one. There's a difference between learning a faith and being spoon-fed christian-elitist propaganda though.

yeah...I know chcr...I'm hoping that it's just a song...the other stuff I saw was what I expected from Sunday School...other than being a mite heavy on the take Jesus as your personal saviour thing...but I think that was just the theme of the day. I think I'm gonna go for the next few weeks and stake it out so to speak to reassure myself.
