Marshall plan in Europe. Nice thing or who gives a shit?

nah mate, saw her at the weekend, no need

Just ask my mother ris - her mother's maiden name was Aaron - which if you didn't know is one of the 12 tribes of Isreal. I could whine and whinge about what happened to my great uncles during the 30s and 40s in Germany and how few of my relatives survived the war, but what's the point? Should I blame one side of the family for what happened to the other?

It was 60 years ago, I've heard first hand what went on and can draw a direct analogy with what has been happening in Iraq. Ba'ath Party is just another name for Nazis. That's what we should be concerned with not fighting amongst ourselves.

appeciated aunty but i know enough first hand war stories from the family to keep me going for a bit. my grandad was persuaded into writing his down before he died a few years back.

i've noticed that within europe there doens't seem to be all that much chatter from the last war [tabloid football frenzy excepted]. the past is remembered but we don't beat the 'you done that 60 years back' drum too hard. too much water passed under the bridge for that, and too much horror from everyone to go pointing fingers.
better to live our lives as friends than continue a war that is long finished. that doens't mean forgetting though, of a history that which we are all part.

*Sigh... Tell that to the kids who used to call me a nazi because I'm half german... :disgust2: such ignorance.  Strangely enough, most of my friends whose dads were in the army all have german mothers.

As you say, we all have to live together...

sadly it is the yob culture of the tabloids that appeals to the young, if we could get over the 'two world wars and one world cup, do da do da' mentality at international games it would be a start

which half of you is german aunty? the bottom half leder-hosen clad and all bierkeller dancing or is it a long-blonde haired buxom top half

:D

Hmm 11,000 thousand are buried there. With crap like this going on there is no wonder we would want to move them. Anti war sentiment comes from the government and works its way down. Just as other sentiments do. 1/3 actually back saddam and hope for our defeat? How many of the 1/3 are actually under the age of 35 also. I bet you will find a number close to 80%. People that have forgotten. YOUNG SHITS. Makes one feel like going holocostal on their ass:D

If they have forgotten it is probably because they were not taught about it in the first place and that is our fault for allowing our children's education to be erroded by successive governments. Our past is a very relevent part of our present and future, but governments seem to have forgotten that.
