I understand that, but it would seem to me that they would make more if they were selling it. Maybe I am wrong, I haven't actually seen how much they make buy keeping it illegal.
 
Okay freako, but what about this scenario:

Legalize drugs and distribute them solely through the government
Nationwide Tax cut leaves everybody happy
Gov't makes a putload more by selling it then by taxing people to stop something they can't control

I must be missing something because this just seems to easy

your not missing anything. you have legit points. i stated as i did since its how the drug war is. they make money off the taxes(tho your right they prolly could make more if they legalised it) and make no mistake woodman i am against the drug war id rather it be legal and with the same laws regarding alchol. but the gov't has other reasons for it being illegal im sure. but $$ is what it has come down to as well as the other reasons.
 
I'm not sure I understand you either here Freako, how is the government is making taxes off of illegal drug sales? I know it's on the books in some states that they are taxable, but do you really think dealers claim the income?
 
I think what he means is that some of the tax money we cough up each year goes towards funding the "War on Drugs". At least, that's how I understand it.

as i said anyone who pays taxes pays for the war. im sure dealers cant since if they tried theyd be arrested :p but thats how it pays

simple ill state it again. we pay them a certain amount for it. they pay some of teh money to drug war.
 
Well, how the government is getting money from the drug business now. One way is they do get to seize and sell the items that they confiscate, including cash they confiscate during a drug raid, but that's about the only way the government is making money off it now.

Maybe you're thinking that the DEA would be pissed cause they'd essentially have most of their duties taken away, but they would still have plenty to do with controlling the legal sales, as well as controlling other substances. I'm for legalizing pot, but not anything else.

we pay taxes and yes theyd get it anyway but we pay for the war. im not saying taxesll drop if its legalised but its a way for them to get $$$(and i said its not the only reason its illegal)





the other situation is again the DEA. like i just stated i never did say theyd lose their responsibilities but some think they will be out of a job if drugs are legal.
