This is what I did

y=(-4/7)x+b

5=(-4/7)9+b

35=(-4)9+b

35=-36+b

71=b

So y=(-4/7)x+71

now for the Y intercept
0=(-4/7)x+71
0=-4x+71
71=4x
17.75=x

And X intercept

y=(-4/7)0+71
y=71

Geez, i gotta stop thinking about analytic geometry, i did everything with tangents. The faster way is to do it just like you did. However you have a small mistake.

y = mx+b
5 = (-4/7)(9) + b
b = 35/7 + 36/7
b= 71/7

then.
y = -4/7 x + 71/7
 
Show that the surfaces 2 = x^2 + y^2 - 1 and 2z = 1 - x^2 - y^2 are orthogonal at all points of intersection. :p

Orthogonal means that the standard inner product is 0 :) Or for not-too-math-oriented, the dot product is 0. Or for the geometric oriented, perpendicular. However perpendicular is kind of silly since how do you draw a perpendicular line in 4D or higher? :cool:
 
I got my test back, 89
Well we are learning midpoint, the easiest thing ever
(6,3) and (0,-1/2)
Took me a whole 10 seconds to figure out (-4,-4)
And my friends are now calling me "super genius" because they looked at it for 5 minutes ang got (-4,-2)
We have a test on perpendicular and parallel tomarrow
So the perpendicular slope to -4/7 will be 7/4 :)
Then the parallel is still in my favorite y=mx+b :)

To make sure the publisher isn't screwing you. You get paid X for the manuscript, and y per book sold, plus z for public appearances and book signings.

Your paycheck has to equal x+(y*number of books)+z

Duh.
