U.S. Officials Say Iraqis May Have Killed Some Prisoners

WASHINGTON, March 25 — Some of the Army mechanics captured on Sunday after they took a wrong turn in the Iraqi town of Nasiriya were apparently executed by their captors, probably in front of townspeople, American officials charged tonight.

The officials cautioned that the information was based on one source, apparently a communications intercept, and that they were seeking corroborating evidence. It is unclear how many of the seven soldiers were executed, rather than killed in fighting, as the Iraqis contend. Five other Americans were taken prisoner and at least three were still missing.

I've seen the pics...and they may or may not be executions. I cannot tell , really. It's entirely possible that these soldiers were killed by combat shots to the head. There we're midsection shots as well...which is odd since many of these soldiers wear BP vests that would cover those areas....

not sure about the forensics in any case.

I do not disagree with you, Gonz....there does have to be a point at which you take a more aggressive stance and this'll happen..and more civilians will be killed. On that you can make bank...

...but as Squiggy mentioned....there can be no one who didn't know that war is an ugly thing....

Bloodied U.S. battle fatigues believed to be those of some of an ambushed Army maintenance unit were found in a hospital in Nasiriya, Iraq, according to a Pentagon official.

The uniforms, found by U.S. troops who took over the hospital, appeared to have had their name tags and flag patches ripped off, perhaps to hide the identity of their owners, the official said.

The troops also discovered what appeared to be a torture device made of a metal cot and a car battery.
