Can you imagine the outcry had this been said by, say, Sean Hannity. What is with the double standard?
BROKAW: Everyone in South Carolina says that the black vote here is not like a black urban vote, for example. These are church-going people who in many instances have the same moral values as members of the Christian Coalition in terms of their faith and their values and what they want out of life. It's a much more conservative black population in terms of values.
COURIC: So what does that mean for the Democrats, Tom?
BROKAW: Well, it means that it's not an automatic vote. Doesn't mean that they're going to go to George Bush. But, you know, in the old days they could come down here and just count on the black vote to go for them, but now there are a lot of choices across the board.
