There was some talk today...on the news...about this countries disaster preparedness plans. One of the things mentioned was an adjustment to the Posse Comitatus Act. The military is not a force you want doing your disaster response because our basic job is based on a "do it or else" mentality. Granted, that works well on looters, but not an a family trying to hold onto their home as long as possible.

No. Contrary to popular belief, a mandatory evac order doesn't NOT mean they can force you to leave. It simply covers their asses when emergency crews cannot get to you later.

If you ignore a mandatory evac order, you probably qualify as an idiot, but you're legal.

I think that's generally a conservative view. I'm basically a centrist/independent,
But I lean toward the con side mostly when issues like this come up.

I think a better plan would be the gov taking over the red cross.
I don't Really know if that would be good either though.

I think people need to quit looking for some-ONE to blame, IT WAS a FRIGGIN' STORM.
People need to try to help themselves more. I'm not saying there shouldn't
be some aide, just that people need to remember that they are their own first responders.
It seems you hear the worst "crying" from the people that won't help themselves.

I think things are just fine as they are. Some states should be more careful in
their choice for elected governors.

As it should be, with homeowners.
