Music collectors?

Shorten (.shn) is an audio compression scheme that is used to compress audio (.wav) files losslessly. This means that after you decompress a Shorten file, everything that was in the original .wav is there. This is unlike MP3, in which the compression step throws away information that can never be recovered.

that's one thing i dislike about mp3's...they have a certain loss of quality..which can go quite far :)
 
i only knew the grateful dead when i looked after seeing the post on slashdot (think it was slashdot) as well...

how do the file sizes compare to mp3 or ogg anyway? does it perform much better than wav+zip?

there's probably a nice chart someone i haven't looked for yet...
