Been watching videos recently..mostly online. Just for the hell of it. A buddy pointed me to this Shakira video. Got me thinking about what passes for music videos.

Frankly, it's more soft-core pr0n than video....or advertising for some shmo's "crib"

So..whatcha think?
 
It's making sure that they'll be able to market their Playboy layouts later when it all comes crashing down.
 
Amazing how, as time passes, what used to be considered terrible and immoral is now looked upon as tame. Ozzy Osbourne used to be the devil, now he's a lovable TV dad. Alice Cooper was the worst thing going...until we met Marilyn Manson. KISS was supposed to be just dreadfully evil...now they're laughably lame. Even the queen of sex, Madonna, is now writing children's books!

Just shows how incredibly stupid Tipper et al really were, eh?

Which Shakira video are we talking about? The one where she's bathed in motor oil? I guess I don't consider it soft porn because I find her repulsive. What's with the whole body convulsing thing anyway? Does she really think that thrusting her chest out and in violently is attactive? At least in her first video she was moving other parts of her body in a more sensual manner, even if it was really overdone.

I'm with SNP on this one. The risque is only risque until it becomes common and someone tops it. Or until a generation gets old and the music starts becoming too loud. Then us old fogies will have a reason to complain about the younger generations, their lack of morality, and taste in music. :)
 
The poll is incomplete. Its missing all variations of 'screw MTV. It ceased being about music a decade ago.' as well as 'art? It isn't even music.'
 
Ditto, I'd vote for that. Just saw last week that VH1 is introducing a "VH1 Classic" channel that will actually show *gasp* VIDEOS. But old ones. As in, videos I would be interested in.
 
We have VH1 classic and it does indeed show videos. Albeit bad ones. Whats with the 10 MTV channels, MTV only shows crap like cribs and pimp my ride.

It's been around quite a while GF. Occasionally they show good ones.
 
Now... I saw a "Flock of Seagulls" video just the other night. Oh, um... never mind.

She's been using the same act since 1992...when she was doing videos in Central and South America. BTDT. (Howard AFB, Panama from 1990-1993)
 
i think i've reached old fogey status. watched MTV for about 3 hours the other day and didnt recognize the artist i saw in the video they accidently played.
