cracks have been found in the engines of atlantis and discovery and the entire space shuttle fleet have been grounded as a result, while nasa check out the others.

columbia's launch on 19th july has been but back.

bummer, hopefully something they can fix easily though.
 
That sucks. It's time for a new type of launch vehicle. Too bad they keep scraping ideas for new ones due to budget cuts.
 
building a new range of shuttles would be a tad expensive, do you think they can trade in the old-ones, part exchange, low mileage? :D
 
They are well past their service life. The problem with reusable stuff is that people forget that they're not supposed to be good for ever. Like rechargable batteries.
