New Bill Gives Obama ‘Kill Switch’ To Shut Down The Internet

no, a genpop representative sample, sparky.

you'd piss and moan about obama for clamping down the internet for a few hours because of a serious security threat.

you'd piss and moan about obama NOT clamping down the internet for a few hours because of a serious security threat.

:crying6:

there should be no security threat from the internet, if they had they stuff together.

We've had the internet how long now?
and NOW there's a threat?

More so-called 'educated', idiots.

your comprehensive and systematic understanding of the world has me in awe. previous comments withdrawn.

yeah, naw, what I think the Real threat is, is the sun.

They better be getting those redundant systems fix, and finish, before we get zapped.

I have been wondering about that, actually. If there was a huge solar event, could it wipe out the electrical grids across the planet and thus sending us back to before we utilize electricity? I remember the show "Conspiracy Theory" talked about something like that in the 2012 episode.

If something like that were to happen on a world-wide scale, how long would it take to fix or would we just have to start over?

We could fix, assuming the eco-terrorists allowed it. It would be a slow recovery though.

What I'v enever understood, if your electronics are off, fully 100% powerless during a solar event/EMP, whatever, why wouldn't they be workable upon re-energizing?

Because the EMP is an electrical charge.

Integrated circuts are very small for low voltage and amperage. Old vacuum tubes withstand EMP's better simply because they were designed for higher voltages and amperage. Shielding helps considerably. If the EMP is powerful enough, it will fry most everything electrical despite shielding.

The solar ejecta EMP in 1850's fried lengths of telegraph wires.

Somethings like a dry lead/acid battery will be fine after an EMP if you have a bottle of electrolyte to add to it.

Our Electric co has already replaced just about all the insulators, but
many many transformers are still vulnerable.
The other 2 companies around the area aren't as up to date though.

I think they've just about finished the hydro-dam facility, but I don't
know about the nuke, or facilities in other states.

Then there was THIS "Knowing" which was the worst Nicolas Cage movie ever. I left the theater wishing I had my two hours back.

FCC says Piss on Congress!

"Congress has not given us the authority to do this," Robert McDowell, one of two Republican commissioners on the FCC, told FoxNews.com. McDowell, who plans to dissent, said that if the FCC follows through on Tuesday, "there really are no bounds to what the FCC could do, so long as it's done in the name of promoting the Internet in their view." That potential ranges from price control to content control, he said.
