Since they can't make everybpdy equally safe, they made everbody equally unsafe

The auto industry agreed on Wednesday to make design changes to sport utility vehicles and pickup trucks sold in the United States so they are less dangerous to the occupants of passenger cars.

While the industry has for years disputed critics' contentions that the increasing prevalence of S.U.V.'s posed a serious danger to other vehicles in collisions, 15 automakers from four nations agreed to redesign their light trucks, specifically S.U.V.'s and pickups, to reduce the likelihood that they would skip over the front bumpers of cars in collisions.

I hate SUV's they don't help in snow, they just lead to a false sense of security.

and you become an idiot when you drive one

I hate SUVs; these vehicles designed to cross the Serengeti are usually used to travel 5 blocks to the upmarket grocery store.

or carry the soccer team, the only time I was glad to be in one is when I was working on a farm, and we needed it

Damn Gonz...You seem to be pissed at anything, lately, that stops someone from getting killed.

Actually, if you understand how 4WD works, it really does help in snow (under certain conditions). The problem is that most people don't understand when it's appropriate and when it's more dangerous than having two wheel drive. For most people, front drive is the way to go (I don't like it though).

I like the story though. "They aren't dangerous, but we'll make them safer anyway."

Wow. That happens to BMW drivers too :D

Squiggy (do not read freak104), sit down, take a deep breath & concentrate, real hard...

ok, ready...

this new design means that the occupants of both vehicles get killed instead of just one.

and can someone tell me why SUV drivers can't parallel park? they seem to need 2 1/2 spaces....

and why are they ALWAYS talking on their cell phones instead of watching the road? I seem to be surrounded by them every morning and evening, freaked out as I see them wander in and out of their lanes....

**hate hate hate SUVs and their occupants**

you get up an go is better, but these guys dont' realize it don't help when you hit the brake

and they are all automatic, so no engine braking

Not all of them, but a lot for sure. We get ice storms here, engine braking isn't always a good thing. Actually, my wife drives one. I drive a beat up old Trans Am.

hopefully for `05 there will be fewer assholes on the road.

As far as I've ever been able to tell, there's an endless supply.
