NIU Shooting leaves 6 dead; story still developing

A man armed with a shotgun and two handguns opened fire Thursday afternoon in a lecture hall at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, killing four people before shooting himself to death, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 3 p.m. during a geology class in a large lecture classroom in Cole Hall, authorities said. At least 16 people were wounded, and four have died.

UPDATE: Authorities now say six people have died, including the gunman, in the NIU shootings. Four of the victims were female and one was male, according to NIU President John Peters. He said four people died at the scene and two died later at the hospital.

My brother has several friends/coworkers who go to NIU, I hope they're OK.

They found references to the VT shooting there in a couple of places too.

It's not guns killing these people. It's going to school that's the culprit. We need to stop outlawing guns and start outlawing schools.
