The federal government's first study of pharmaceuticals in drinking water will confirm traces of common painkillers, anti-cholesterol drugs and the antidepressant Prozac are ending up in the treated water that Canadians drink, CanWest News Service has learned.

A study by researchers from the National Water Research Institute for Health and Environment Canada, designed to gauge how efficiently plants removed traces of drugs from drinking water, found nine different drugs in water samples taken near 20 drinking water treatment plants across southern Ontario.
seriously though...not good.

I take 9 different kinds of pills a day. I wonder how much my drug intake effects the water reclaiming plant.

Your pills are used up by your body before the water is 'recycled' through your kidneys. Looks like somebody in Canada is treating the water on the sly...No wonder Chertien couldn't speak... :lloyd:

Bish...not to sound ridiculous, but doesn't the water you flush go down into a 'sanitary' sewer, and out into a sewage treatment plant before being released into a stream/river/lake? The system then takes water from a lake/river/stream, and sends it to a water treatment facility, where it's treated (Chlorinated/flourinated) for drinking. AFAIK, once it's been through the treatment facility, it's supposed to be relatively free of any contaminants that are deemed hazardous. This means that, the only way those drugs wound up in the drinking water is because somebody put them there after treatment...
