Not only have we forgotten

We're back to Sept 10 mentality.

Look around & you'll see more & more stories about how we've become paranoid & we're just frightening ourselves for nothing or GW & friends are using a glitch in the system to empower his buddies & nothing more.

Then you'll see the growing trend in "the TSA agent felt me up" type of argument. The "I'm not Arab so I can't possibly be dangerous & no I'm not a racist but why do they have to search me?" attitude.

Now, even the airports are returnig to "normal"
Sunday, Dec. 05, 2004
The uniformed screeners from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) have become familiar sights to air travelers across the country. But not all airport officials are happy to have them around. Nevada's Elko Regional Airport last week became the first airport in the country to apply to get rid of TSA screeners altogether and return to private employees. The airport, which handles just 15 flights a day, has 14 screeners. Elko director Cris Jensen said there were no problems with the government screeners, but he feels his airport can do the same job more efficiently by better matching its personnel with demand. Dozens of other small airports are expected to apply for a similar exemption in the coming weeks.

As I've claimed several times, America has forgotten the lessons & the victims of Sept 11, 2001. I don't need to hear how you've not forgotten & you got up & worshipped at your crystal World Trade Centers Towers memorabilia from Franklin Mint (only 16 payments of $16.95) this, and every morning since 9/12. We the people, not we the individual.

Yes the gov't has overstepped its boundries...for a non-war time. Until the war is over, we have to expect some discomfort. I've spoked to several people who were stateside in the 40s. Ladies & gentlemen, we ain't seen nothing.

The sleeping giant isn't sleeping, it's dazed by the rapidity of forgetfulness. I'm amazed & saddened at what we've become. The gentle, thoughtful, kind, giving people of the USA have, somewhere along the trail, raised or become thoughtless, soulless, morbid voyeurs with a soundbite attention span who only appreciate "if it bleeds it leads" (lack of) journalism.

Too bad.

Time

most havent forgotten but dont want it to run their lives Mark. They do not want to live in fear that they will die. This does not mean we should be complacent. Just that we should live our lives as we normally would. Security is and always was an issue

I've felt that way for at least twenty years.

We were a country largely made up of whiners and moaners before 9/11, we continue to be the same. I don't understand why you act surprised.

Strange how we didn't become this way until after the last of the draftees were parents... ;)

I agree with Gonz on this one. We have forgotten. We have forgotten how shocked we were that morning. We have forgotten how violated we all felt. We have forgotten how angry we were.

All of it. We've forgotten it all. We've forgotten it because by and large we are a spoiled people. We are too accustomed to our conveniences. We pitch a bitch if we are delayed 45 seconds at the airport, never once mindful of the people around the world who deal with a helluva lot more than that every day of their lives. "Somebody brushed his hand across my tit!" we cry. Never mind that in our world there are people who would "suffer" that gladly to get away from the war torn world they exist in because of terrorism. We don't care about them....we had our tittie bumped.

It's gonna bite us again. Hard. Next time, they might succeed. Next time, while you're off somewhere stroking your indignant precious oh-so-damn-self-righteous FEELINGS, they'll kill you instead of someone else. Or your husband. Or your wife. Or kids. Maybe all of them. And ya know what? When it happens, you'll start squalling. You'll be demanding that somebody DO something about this.

Well, we tried. We really did. But somebody scraped your freakin' tit one day, and you screamed to high heaven, and we had to remove them. Sorry for your loss. But at least your tits are OK.

We're gonna get it again, folks. We can be ready, or we can be free of inconvenience. America is the laziest society on the planet. If I were a madman bent on global havoc, I might consider the lazy as an easy target; especially when all they ever do is fight amongst themselves over things so trivial as a breast getting brushed during a security check put in place to stop me. How very delicious.

I'm just glad I live where I do. Ain't no reason to bomb the boonies.

Write it down, y'all. If you think we've seen the last attack on American soil, or even the worst, I think you might want to look around. See how your defense system is being slowly eroded. See how the safeguards put in place for your benefit are being scaled down. See how your neighbors, coworkers, family members...see how they conduct themselves. Listen to how the population is in outcry over the very defenses set up to protect them...and they cry because it's inconvenient. How pathetic.

Those passengers on September 11 were inconvenienced too, ya know. That hijacking, and flying into the WTC business, and all that...that really screwed up their day big time.

Makes me wanna puke.

I truly believe our President is acting in the best interest of the country. I've read the Patriot Act & have no fear of it. I think federalizing the screeners was ridiculous but it was done, with the blessings of damn near everyone. I also think the ones to scream the loudest & start with the "what did he know & when did he know it" bs will be the very ones crying foul today. As we all know, he who bitches loudest makes CNN headlines.

chcr- I told you, I'm an optimist. I just sometimes get way depressed by the shallowness I see prevailed in the media. I know that when push comes to shove, those people are still around, they've just been misplaced in favor of Jessica SImpson.

I don't have a problem with them being Govt employees, of course I don't have a problem with screeners either, cause I rarely fly. I would have to say that it sounds a bit excessive at this airport. 15 flights a day and they have 14 screeners? Is the cost of these screeners being put back on the airport? I honestly don't know how it all works but I assume the costs are put back somehow, or the airport wouldn't want them replaced.

Yes, we've probably dropped our guard a little, but these little airports are already struggling, to demand that they pay 14 extra people could mean the difference of having an airport there next year or not.

Those screeners would have to be hired anyway. The small, regional airports would like to hire cheaper security is all...and cheaper, in this case, does not result in better.

14 screeners, 7 days a week...2 work five days a week-full time, 4 work weekend/replacement, part-time. There's somebody there for all flights.

What makes me puke ... is that in all but one of the planes, the passengers sat like good little sheep and let it happen. For christ's sake, all the hijackers had were knives. And they were outnumbered 50-to-1.

Guess they didn't want to be inconvenienced....

In defense of thew sheep, after 40 years of unplanned stops in Havava or Paraguay, we'd been conditioned to "sit it out". Highjackings usually meant inonvenience, not world changing events. Nobody in their right mind even considered the alternatives.

And that is why they still happen.

After the 9-11 attacks China stopped selling airline tickets to nationals from the following countries: Afghanistan, Egypt, Israel, Pakistan, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen, Sudan, Kuwait, Libya, and Algeria. It added people of Palestinian or Pakistani origin with "unusual background" should also be denied tickets.

The majority of Americans want to see this country protected. Taking ethnicity into account should assume a large role in this country's security and it shouldn't be ignored simply because it is unpleasant thought to some.

The following quiz, though here a re-tread, is taken from actual events in recent history:

To ensure that Americans never offend anyone, particularly
fanatics intent on killing us, airport security screeners must conduct
random searches of 80-year-old grandmas and 5 year old children,
but leave Muslim Males between the ages 17 & 40 alone because of cries of racial profiling.

In 1972, 11 Israeli athletes were killed at the Munich Olympics by:

d. Muslim males of middle eastern extraction between the ages of 17 and 40

In 1985 the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked and a 70 year-old
American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard in his
wheelchair by:
a. The Smurfs
b. Davy Jones
c. The Little Mermaid

b. The Tooth Fairy
c. Butch and Sundance, who had a few sticks of dynamite left over from
their train mission
d. Muslim males of middle eastern extraction between the ages of 17 and 40

In 1993, the World Trade Center was bombed the first time by:
a. The entire cast of "Cats"
b. Grandma Moses
c. Cheese-crazed tourists from Wisconsin
d. Muslim males of middle eastern extraction between the ages of 17 and 40

If Santa answered his mail honestly...

Dear Santa

I wud like a kool toy space ranjur fer Xmas. Iv ben a
gud boy all yeer.

Yer Frend,

BiLLy

Dear Billy,

Nice spelling. You're on your way to a career in lawn
care.

How about I send you a freaking book so you can learn
to read and write?

I'm giving your older brother the space ranger. At
least HE can spell!

Santa

************************************

Dear Santa,

I have been a good girl all year, and the only thing I
ask for is peace and joy in the world for everybody!

Love,

Sarah

Dear Sarah,

Your parents smoked pot when they had you, didn't
they?

Santa

************************************

Dear Santa,

I don't know if you can do this, but for Christmas,
I'd like for my mommy and daddy to get back together.

Please see what you can do.

Love,

Teddy

Dear Teddy,

Look, your dad's banging the babysitter like a screen
door in a hurricane.
Do you think he's gonna give that up to come back to
your frigid mom, who rides his ass constantly?

It's time to give up that dream.

Let me get you some nice Lego's instead.

Santa

************************************

Dear Santa,

I left milk and cookies for you under the tree, and I
left carrots for your reindeer outside the back door.

Love,

Susan

Dear Susan,

Milk gives me the runs, and carrots make the deer fart
in my face when riding in the sleigh.

You want to do me a favor? Leave me a bottle of
Scotch.

Santa

************************************

Dear Santa,

What do you do the other 364 days of the year?

Are you busy making toys?

Your Friend,

Thomas

Dear Thomas,

All the toys are made in China. I have a condo in
Vegas, where I spend most of my time making low-budget
porno films.

I unwind by drinking myself silly and squeezing the
asses of cocktail waitresses while losing money at the
craps table.

Hey! You wanted to know.

Santa

************************************

Dear Santa,

Do you see us when were sleeping, do you really know
when where awake, like in the song?

Love,

Jessica

Dear Jessica,

Are you really that gullible? Good luck in what ever
you do. I'm skipping your house.

Santa

************************************

Dear Santa,

I really, really, really want a puppy this year.
Please, please, please, Please PLEASE, PLEASE, could I
have one?

Timmy

Timmy,

That whiney begging shit may work with your folks, but
that crap doesn't work with me.

You're getting a sweater again.

Santa

************************************

Dearest Santa,

We don't have a chimney in our house, how do you get
into our home?

Love,

Marky

Mark,

First, stop calling yourself "Marky", that's why
you're getting your ass whipped at school.

Second, you don't live in a house, you live in a
low-rent apartment complex.

Third, I get inside your pad just like all the
burglars do, through your bedroom window.

Sweet Dreams,
Santa

The last one I recall was Lockerbie. The 90s were incredibly quiet where hijackings were concerned.
