Mr Rybkin was in Ukraine while the Russian storm raged
Russian presidential candidate Ivan Rybkin has resurfaced in Ukraine, five days after he disappeared. He told Russian media he was visiting friends in Kiev and "decided not to listen to the radio or TV" for a few days. Mr Rybkin said he was "shocked" when he read newspapers on Tuesday and saw his absence was being given wide attention. There was speculation in Russia that he had been kidnapped or killed to remove him from elections, or had staged his disappearance as a publicity stunt. Mr Rybkin, linked to exiled tycoon Boris Berezovsky, is a fierce critic of President Vladimir Putin but is seen as having little chance in the election. An aide said he would be returning to Moscow later on Tuesday. Russian prosecutors had briefly opened a murder inquiry on Monday but cancelled it within an hour, citing a lack of evidence. His wife reported him missing.
