Odds on Iran and Syria getting involved?

People are in the streets in Iran and Syria (not to mention other Muslim states), and verbally attacking the USA and the UK for this war. Many are calling for their countries to get involved in a Jihad and help protect their Iraqui family.

So...what do you think of the possibilities of a Jihad starting? Muslim vs. USA/UK/Christians etc...?

Mea culpa - I shouldn't have grouped them together...but that would've meant two or more threads...tough to juggle all the arguements.

Odds on Syria - they're already involved in selling weapons and equipment to Iraq...why not help them out.

Iran - hmm that's a toughie...they might come to the aid of fellow Muslims but only as an excuse to invade.

Pakistan - Damn...that's a toughie...and they're nuclear!

Um, did you notice that the World Trade Centers were hit and like 3,000+ people were killed as also our pentagon?

I would consider that a war like jesture.

The longer it takes to overthrown saddam the more likely a full blown jihad will start. If we can be in or at Baghdad in 30 days using standard military tactics, highly unlikely. If we begin a seige...

I didn't think my statement was that complex. Read it again.

The problem that I think that he was stating is that a lot of middle-easteners don't seem to see the difference between being American and being Christian. That's how they can declare a war on the USA as being a Jihad. It can't be a holy war if it's not based on two or more religions against each otehr. Some of them can't even imagine that Muslims live in the USA, or that any country can even be delineated by anything BUT religion.

A Jihad is a war in defense of their religion. It doesn't have to be against another competing religion. Just in defense of theirs.

As for Iranians and Syrians yelling and shouting slogans, that's hardly anything new. They've been at it for 20 odd years. I'd wager they're positioning themselves within the Moslem Nation (if you'll allow the terminology).

Not really your grouping but theirs. All religions are equally in error in my view. Interesting point though, is that they record their religion back to Abraham just like the christians and jews. I don't think the jihad will be WWIII, just that it will spawn it.

Sorry Hex, my phrasing wasn't thought out completely. Where I live (they call it the bible belt) nearly everyone is a christian. I shouldn't let it color my thinking.
