Oil companies report record profits!......in unrelated news i still pay $2 a gallon

I "only" pay $1.40. :moon2:

Seriously, it's called price gouging. They did it two years ago with heating oil. This administration is the energy companies' best friend.

It went to 1.30 where I live yesterday, been hovering around 1.45 for the past few weeks. I'll be filling everything I own tomorrow.

Gas is cheap where I live.

Its because we have a streamlined common ground offering that is easy for the refineries to meet demand. California has different formulation regulations for each and every block, zip code, community, and principality. They can't keep up with it.. and frankly they don't want to. If you want cheap gas, pick 10 different formulations for the entire state. Gas will shed a full .50 for you in no time flat.

How's that compare to a year or so ago?

It wasn't very long ago at all that I was paying $1.59. 40-50 cents is a huge jump.

I hardly even use much gas since I take the train to work, but it still sucks.

About a year ago, I'd say pretty close, the peak we hit was 1.70 I think, right after the war started, it's steadily gone down since then.

We hit $2 then. Now we're down near $1.40.

What unc said...

Also, buying something other than a gas guzzler would be a smart idea. ;)

i recall some time back unc posted a trip he was doing and how much it would cost him and when i did the sums on it i worked out that my doing the same distance in my 15yo vw polo would be cheaper here. our fuel is more expensive but even my piece of junk has better mpg.

Fuel prices are like income tax .....they said after WW2 they would drop income tax ........lol......well fuel is the same once they broke a buck a gallon they won't ever go below ...fuel has been bubbling between 1.20 - 2.00 in different states .....fuel prices before nixon was .19 a gallon since the begining of the useage of gasoline! :headbang:

It's down to $1.79 at the Texaco nest door. Fresno has traditionally been one of the cheapest places in the state to fill up.I remember paying 95¢ a gallon in August 2001 at the very same Chevron Station around the corner from here that is at $1.85 right now.
