Oiling the Wheels of War

I'm sure there was. Thats where common sense would have, and should have, taken most of us. But the "Pep Rally" seems to have led everyone away from the facts and the Saudis get to laugh at us now....as they smile and appease us with oil. And still, the thought that "its about oil" evades the cheerleaders. Wake up. It is about oil.

What I've learned from this thread:

If we attack a country that has lots of oil, like Iraq, that means it's about oil.

If we don't attack a country that has lots of oil, like Saudi Arabia, that means it's about oil.

Huh?

"For US investors, Saudi Arabia is one of the most important countries in the world. It's the largest oil exporter, containing somewhere between 25% and 30% of the known world oil supply. When Saudi Arabia sneezes, US investment markets catch pneumonia. "

Lets see...

Iraq: Supports terrorism. Unfreindly to our oil intrests---ATTACK!

Saudi Arabia: Supports terrorism. Freindly to our oil interest---Pour a few drinks..

Yep. Apparently thats how it works

All of the borders in the middle east are jokes anyway. They were arbitrarily drawn up by the French and English right after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire I do believe. The locals have never been all too happy about it. The Iraq borders compose like 3 old tribes that been warring since the days of Alexander. Its almost as bad as the socio religious muck in the Balkan states. Puppet governments, coups, juntas, wars, terror, theocratic tomfoolery.. Its a giant game of king of the hill. They make allies only to enrich or arm. They have no true friends. They don't want them. Our economy is mildy tied in via oil futures... but I dont think it would be so hard to wean off of reliance of the area.

It all wraps back into lobbies and such pressing for laws and trade deals and making allies as a matter of speculation. I would love to declare war on the the way the government 'does the deal' as well. Its been pure skullduggery since the early 1800s.

The president has had a hard enough time getting the Dems on board for a war against Iraq. A war against Saudi Arabia would've meant a war against the entire middle east. Ever heard of Mecca or Medina? You're saying that because the president wasn't willing to push for the whole shebang, he should just let it go. The fact is, if he were pushing for a war against all the middle east, you would be opposed to that as well. Your argument is nothing but rhetorical BS.

I'd just like to point out that you don't oil a wheel. You grease it.

Excellent point! I just want to go on record as agreeing with Professeur 100% on this, and I think it shows just where this thread was headed with it's communistic claims about oiling wheels. :p
