CLEVELAND -- This year’s Olympics is the first to feature women’s wrestling and a young Cleveland woman says she can visualize herself wearing a medal in Athens.
Toccara Montgomery got into wrestling in high school. Her first goal was to start beating boys on the mats. The 21-year-old college senior is now one of four members of the first U.S. Olympic women’s wrestling team.
She is widely considered to be a strong contender for gold.
USA Wrestling’s National Women’s coach Terry Steiner says Montgomery’s biggest asset is her ability to focus under pressure.
Though she’s focused on the medal podium in Athens now, Montgomery’s goals extend beyond the mat.
She is majoring in elementary education at Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky and wants to teach second grade.
