Out-of-state driving question

Well, I don't know about the states but I know now no matter where you get pulled over in Canada you get points on your Ontario drivers licence. My mom got 2 in Quesbec this summer.

I will not get into how the officer who pulled her over on the TRANSCANADA highway couldn't even speak english! Ok, I will a bit! Officers patrolling the TRANSCANADA highway ANYWHERE in Canada should speak both official languiages.

I will say nothing else.

I know one thing. It's not a good idea to start pulling cash out of your wallet while you are pulled over. Even if you're offering to pay the fine on the spot. The MO state troopers can't tell you how much the fine will be anyway, it's dependent on the county you get pulled over in.

if you get caught doing something like that, and you are not a mexican, you better give money to the cop, most city cops will take it, federals might but their price is way higher, if you try it the legal way, they might deport you and ban you.

Two summers ago I was driving in Connecticut on I-95 where the limit was 65. My coworker was driving a little ways behind me and usually speeds to excess (at least 10 over the limit, sometimes 20).

As I was coming over a rise, I got in the left lane and gunned it to get past a tractor trailer. When I had overtaken him, I looked down and saw I was doing 80! I got in the right lane and slowed down only to see a state trooper in my rearview mirror. I freaked out, thinking he had clocked me and as I came over the next rise, I saw his lights about a mile or so behind me.

After a while, I didn't see the lights anymore and just assumed he was going after someone else. Well, he was going after someone else--my coworker who was behind me. She would not shut up about it for the rest of the business trip, complaining that she wasn't going that fast, this was bullshit, she was going to fight it, etc... I finally turned to her and said, "You were speeding and you got caught. Whether it was 5 miles per hour over or 50, it's still your fault, get over it." Then I made fun of her because I would have gotten a ticket had it not been for that tractor trailer that blocked me from the radar gun. :D

What it comes down to is that if you speed, roll through stop signs, tailgate, doesn't matter--it's your own fault. I got a ticket for doing 72 in a 55 about 7 years ago but I didn't complain about it-I paid for it for three years.

I agree with Greenfreak, it's your own fault if you get caught. I speed, I do not deny that, at most 100/120 km/h (55 mph if I'm correct) roads I drive 140/150 km/h (if the situation allows it, safety first, speed later). They aren't that strict here though, and I know where to slow down (there are some advantages to a father who's a cop, although he would stop and give me a ticket if he caught me though :D).

There was a cop behind me last time, didn't notice him until the last moment, but he just drove by. If he wanted to stop me, fine, I was speeding, it's my fault.

You're not.... That is 75 miles per hour.

about 90ish miles per hour

I don't mind paying if they catch me. They just won't catch me. But in the case they do, I want to know what I can expect. And yeah, I pretty much average 75 mph unless the speed limit is 55 (then I do 65), or 85 when the limit is 75.

I drove to Ottawa and back today. It was snowing lightly. Less than an inch of the fluffy white stuff. I counted 32 cars in the ditchs and 4 collisions in Ottawa downtown. They all thought they were good drivers too. They still do. They'll all blame the city/province for not clearing the roads fast enough to prevent the accidents. It couldn't have been their poor driving habits at fault.

You mean you didn't know that until now, prof? It's always somebody elses fault. ;)

 so 55 would be... 88 km/h  that's sloooow  Sorry, but if the weather and stuff aren't that bad I would be paying a lot less attention if I was driving 55 mph.

If conditions are worse, sure, I would slow down and pay more attention. I'm not saying I'm a good driver at all, and I know I'll probably end up in the line of cars which failed to follow the road too, but I know I'm careful, that's all I can do.

Normally the speed limit is set to 65/75 mph on the freeways though, which is nice. There are always idiots who are doing 110 mph, but as long as they hit a tree instead of another car I don't care. Unfortunately, most of them do hit another car, thus killing innocent people while staying alive themselves. Bastards.
