The entire source code for a much-anticipated computer game, Half-Life 2, has been leaked to the Internet, according to a security expert.

Copies of the source code began trading wildly on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) channels last night and apparently followed a sophisticated attack on the network of Valve Corp. of Bellevue, Washington, which makes Half-Life, according to Thor Larholm a senior security researcher at PivX Solutions LLC.

That is sad. Considering most of these dweebs that downloaded the source probably won't have a clue how to compile it. :disgust2:

Interesting...i winoder if some independant team of hackers and programmers could further modify the engine....not that it wasn't juiced up already.

Wasn't Halflife the game that had a bunch of add-on levels and such ,that people had done themselves because the source code was made available form the Developer.I'm sure they are pissed the code was released before the game ,but it would have been made available anyway.

If people already have the game they aren't gonna buy it are they... 5 years of work down the toilet!

I believe the engine code has been leaked..not the game itself..anyway the raw code will be hard to complie.

If some other game company got their hands on the source code, they could probably compile it easily. They get themselves a nice game engine without the cost of developing it or buying it from Valve for "bazillions of dollars". That's too bad for Valve.

If it's copyrighted material another company couldn't legally use it.

no they can alter the code enough to use and not be sued. package it for a new game and viola' another new game engine is introduced. Argh maties beware of them thar pirates.....

Oh wow...but even if the original company could prove it is a modified version of their code it's still allowed?

New delay for Half-Life sequel

Looks like a delay in game...check out the screenshot though!!! WOW!!!

That is just typical with so many people wanting something for nothing these days, they are on to a good thing. Hope they are caught, they deserve it. :devious:

Like Samcurry said the other companies have competent enough programmers that they can alter the code enough to make it look their own....happens often with hollywood movies and music industry.

I wonder how such valuable information got out though?? John Cormack better watch out and protect his godly DoomIII engine.

they said a third of the code. but now they are gonna rewrite it, so the third they got will be usless if they think that they got a alpha.

the code was ripped from ...And it came from Gabe Newell's machine the founder of the company and developer of the game.

Such horrendous delays it will cause. Saying this game was highly anticipated is an understatement.

Maybe all this is just a marketing technique.
