Reasons for an a drive not being acessable

I just put a new mobo in Katie's computer... I was suddenly getting all kinds of errors with her old one... windows freezing, failure to boot - out of virtual memory, mouse and keyboard not working and finally it refused to work at all. So I ordered a cheapy Acorp 7A1647A which takes the 1 GHzTtbird plus 256mb of ddr 2100 generic memory... I finally have everything working except the A drive.

The drive is recognised in the Bios, but cannot be read... not acessable. I've tried 2 other drives with the same result. What I need to know is, is this a problem separate from the board or is it likely to be the board itself. When told to use the floppy as first boot device and floppy seek is enabled in the Bios.. nothing happens and it boots from the hdd up instead. Also if I reboot it seems to take a while to find the drives.

Should I return it to Aria and ask for a replacement?

Also, on a similar note... how do I make a bootable CD that will boot me into DOS? Just in case this happens again on any of my other computers.
