the free one anyways...

In an email to Red Hat Network customers, the company has announced today that it "...will discontinue maintenance and errata support for Red Hat Linux 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 and 8.0 as of December 31, 2003," that "Red Hat will discontinue maintenance and errata support for Red Hat Linux 9 as of April 30, 2004," and that "Red Hat does not plan to release another product in the Red Hat Linux line."

So they are saying what we all thought when they announced the RHNETWORK. you gotta pay to play. too bad, i think they will lose the appeal most had for them. they'll end up like suse. which by the way is getting bought by Novell. eiwwwww i guess the song another one bites the dust...

OMFG have you seen their prices? it like fucking MS. well they just lost me. 199.99 for a standard desktop.

it seems like highway robbery to me too, but considering that linux is free and there are one or two alternatives I wouldn't get my panties in a bunch.

still for that price. no way, to many other distros out there just as good and still supported. RH was never known for their bedside manners when it came to support, so i hope they get over that hurdle. otherwise they will be another hasbeen. I bet ol Linus is so glad he sold off all his shares. this IMHO is the worst thing they could have done.

And then i find the fedora project. looks like all the RH group didnt all agree on this path. and now we have yet another fork in the trail.

Wow, I need to pay more attention. Well, back to Mandrake. Maybe I should finally go back to Debian.

Talking about Mandrake, I wonder how are they going to manage this, since their distro is based on redhat.
