Maybe if we kill ALL the joy in life everyone else can be unhappy like us!!! :tardbang:
US conservative groups are up in arms over a music video featuring children's TV heroes such as the cheerful cartoon character SpongeBob Squarepants.

Focus on the Family and other groups say the video - a remake of the Sister Sledge hit, We Are Family - is a vehicle for pro-gay propaganda.

The video's makers plan to mail it to US schools in the spring to promote tolerance and diversity.

They say the attack is based on a misunderstanding. The video also features children's favourites like Bob the Builder, along with characters from Sesame Street and The Muppet Show.

But James Dobson, founder of right-wing Christian group Focus on the Family, singled out SpongeBob at a black-tie dinner in Washington in the run-up to President Bush's inauguration, the New York Times said.

SpongeBob - who appears on the children's cable channel Nickelodeon - is seen as an icon for adult gay men in the US, apparently because he regularly holds hands with his sidekick Patrick.

His creators deny that he is gay, but he is not the first such character to cause controversy.

In 1999 conservatives claimed handbag-carrying Teletubby Tinky Winky, an import from the UK, was a bad role-model.

'Easy lesson'

Nile Rodgers, who wrote the song and is founder of the We Are Family Foundation (WAFF) which released the new video, says it is intended to help teach children the values of co-operation and unity.

"We believe that this is the essential first step to loving thy neighbour," he said. "And the fun and exciting format makes it a lesson that's easy for children to learn."

But conservatives say it sees the video as a cunning attempt to promote homosexuality.

They point to the fact that the WAFF is linked to a pledge being promoted by some liberal groups which includes a recognition of tolerance of sexual identity.

"We see the video as an insidious means by which the organisation is manipulating and potentially brainwashing kids," Paul Batura, a spokesman for Focus on the Family, told the New York Times.

Mr Rodgers said the groups may have confused his foundation with an unrelated organisation with a similar name that supports gay youth. WAFF spokesman Mark Barondeso told the newspaper that anyone who thought the video promoted homosexuality "needs to visit their doctor and get their medication increased".

pro-gay? That barrier was shattered in the 60s with Velma from Scooby Doo.

Hell...even before that with Simon Bar Sinister and Flunky in Underdog.

What we have here is a few nutballs who have too much time on their hands. I put them in the same group as the lefties who are in PETA...

Religious and conservative as I am, this organization goes too far. Dobson is a power hungry egomaniac. His agenda is frightening.

Spongeboob is a cartoon. Yes, it appeals to children. Yes, he holds hands with another male cartoon character. So what? I do not subscribe to the "gay from birth" line of thought anyway; I think it's all a choice. I compare Spongeboob's antics leading to a rise of homosexual children about as logically sound as the whole PMRC "listen to Ozzy and become a Satanist" bullshit.

Every debate has the extremists. Dobson and his crowd are among the more vocal ones right now.

I agree but many times groups like this one will complain loudly to get their way. and just because you are religious doesnt mean you have to agree with them. I think they are saying they re religious but like many use it only to make themselves look good. To me someone who is truly religious will not hate everything they dont agree with

Bob the Builder is a hottie. I think he's into kinky stuff too, with that tool-belt, helmet and all. Exposing kiddies to him is soo wrong. "Can we fix it?" "Yes we can!" Obviously an orgy in the making.

As for poor Tinky Winky..

If holding hands with another man makes them both gay...then someone should tell this guy about the AUE, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq...maybe even Afghanistan... obviously Gay-centric powerhouses!

In these countries...handshakes are far longer than in the Americas and it's polite to hold the hand of your friends and allies...even while walking!

Hell...all over Europe, grown sons are kissing their fathers on the cheek when they say 'Hello' and 'goodbye'.... obviously, it's a European Union Gay powertrip!!!

Run for the hills!!!

AaarrrrghhhhhH!!!!

I guess this is were my lib side starts showing.
Not about Gays, 'cause I still have a homophobia, but that...
Extreme anything whether it be lib, or con is not good.
I look at it like a marriage, ...
It's good to have both sides of a debate, but there comes a time
when both sides have to give a little to get something accomplish.

BTW, I didn't know Spong was gay...?

I remember that whole thing about the gay teletubbie. hilarious but incredibly stupid. Plus its British so I doubt they saw it as gay.

Please do. In fact, I'd like you to show me a dozen stories in the mainstram press where the first few words are (or highly resmeble) "US Liberal activists"

Tinkie WINKY, Spongebob, Barney...let's all laugh at the silly Americans.

Ugh oh, a silly American suggests we all laugh at the silly Europeans.

Ronald McDonald is sure to grimace when he finds out the latest plan by governments across the Atlantic.

The clown of renown, along with other animated characters like Kellogg's Tony the Tiger, could be banned from television in Britain and the European Union, as cartoon food hawkers are now regarded as a threat to society.

WND, not one mention of liberal kooks :p
