sata drives

I'm looking at getting my first sata drive.
I've notice myself IMO, that in 7200rpm eide drives that
maxtor
samsung
wd
seagate
in that order there seems to be a slight speed difference.
I like the dependability record of Seagate though, and the 5yr warranty.
What I'm wondering is, is there as much of a noticeable difference in
seek/transfer in the sata as there seems to be in the eide, or is it less noticeable,
or is Seagate maybe even faster with those than the others?

The biggest speed difference would be if you got the WD Raptor drives because it spins at 10,000 RPM. I upgraded from a 20GB 7200RPM Maxtor ATA-100 drive to a 160GB Maxtor 7200RPM SATA drive, and it's hard to tell how much of a difference the drive makes and how much of the difference is because I upped from a AMD T-bird 1.2 to a P4-2.8 at the same time.

yeah I'd like to get a couple of raptors one day and raid um, but right
now I need more storage for dvd rendering stuff.
I'm sure the sata should be faster than the eide that I have now,
I'm just wonder if there's was a diff.
I wonder if each company has there own wat of bench testing,
or if they all use the same way.
Looking at the specs of the eide, they look real close to the same,
but I can tell from experience that there's a diff.

my dell poweredge has a 7200 (maxtor?) sata drive and for an ata it seems pretty wicked fast. blows away my newish pata disks singly and doesn't seem to be too far behind a raid-0
