School forces STD/HIV/pregnancy test on students

I don't know that that is true for any private schools. Invasion of privacy and all that. Just like the laws of capital punishment (paddling students) applies to all schools, I would think all laws apply. But if you're talking about admissions acceptance, that isn't really the case here. All these kids were already going to these schools.

Anyway, I agree that this isn't right, no matter which way you look at it. I'm really surprised this happened at all, honestly.

This kids are turning into little whores, huh? 13 years old? Geez. I didn't lose my virginity till I was 17.

though ill admit you have valid points gf, the public schools can search students lockers. if they have a reason to. that also violates right to privacy doesnt it(even tho it is on school grounds they can search anything in the locker. this includes backpacks and what bags are in there) kids are having sex younger and younger. i didnt lose mine til I was 18 myself.im not saying its right. but thats the way it happens sometimes. and as was mentioned its a private school. they arent as bound as public schools

It's different on school property. They can search their own locker (it belongs to the school) but not someone's bedroom closet. They shouldn't be able to govern their bodies either.

true but the backpacks arent part of school property. they shouldnt be able to govern them but like we said it is a private school(and possibly a religious one but im not sure) so they have more reach to their students. the situation isnt right but it happened. what can ya do

I have no problem with them searching backpacks while they're on school property. Or metal detectors, for that matter. It's all about where it's happening and whether it's during school hours or not.

One thing you have to realise is that the school did not decide "right, we're going to punish these kids by making them take these tests." As many have pointed out, it took place out of school grounds so punishment is not up to the school - but then punishment is not what they're trying to impose. The school will argue that it has nothing to do with punishment for their actions, but simply that the school is now aware that these kids are engaging in sexual activity and they therefore want to be sure that these kids pose no risk to other members of the school to whom the kids could possibly pass whatever they might have.

No-one would have complained if the school had asked random kids to get tested for SARS. Same goes for businesses, incidentally. Or more relevantly to this incident, what if the kids had skipped school for a week and in that time took flights into China and Hong Kong? On that principle no-one can object to schools asking students in general to be tested for AIDS, etc either, although obviously a lot of people will claim that there's a difference. So where's the line that separates the two?

The pregnancy test for the girls, on the other hand, is probably seriously illegal. They fucked up by asking the girls but not the guy, too. But I don't think I can object to schools asking kids to take an HIV test. Hell, I'd probably even appreciate it.

The distinction I see is that you can spread something like SARS during a normal school day without having intimate contact with someone. It's not the school's place to monitor activities that are forbidden in a school atmosphere to begin with. Contaigous diseases that spread by air or touch, yes. Sexually transmitted diseases, no.

Remember Ryan White? They knew he was HIV positive and tried to get him to stop coming to the school because they were afraid he was going to spread it through the water fountains. Honestly, I don't remember whatever came of that, do you?

Completely off topic... this guy:  dances in perfect double time with Bob Marley's "Everything's going to be alright". :D
