... it's not me, it's the "Corpse Flower". Yes, they named it that because that's what it smells like. Isn't it pretty? ;)

The stench is supposed to be reminiscant of rotting flesh and excrement by design to attract flies to pollinate it. These things can get over 6 feet tall. People are flocking to the Washington D.C. Botanical Garden where one is supposed to "bloom" any day now. They only stay open for a few days (thank God). :D I saw one of those some time back, several months ago? Not literally saw it - I wasn't there. But read an article, saw a picture, learned the stinky facts about this kinda plant. Looks like something from teh movies! It doesn't bloom but once ever ... what? How many years? 40something?
 
Mmmm. Get me one of those to cover up the smell of the ... Oh, nevermind.


I think it's pretty. :)

This is the caption to that picture:

"Ted the Titan" in full bloom on June 10 at the University of California, Davis, Botanical Conservatory. A specimen of Amorphophallus titanum (titan arum), the brief blooming brought a flurry of experiments from UC Davis biologists eager to take advantage of the rare event. Ted was grown from a seed planted in 1995. This was its first flowering. The plants can live for several decades but are thought to flower only every few years

So... 8 years for that plant to 'flower'. And I thought waiting 3 years for an orchid was a lot.
 
it smells awful from what I heard on the news. oit also stays open for only 48 hours. so if your gunna see better hurry up. i like the name :evilgrin:

found something that takes 10-60 years to bloom... This is a link from the NY Botanical Gardens. I haven't been there in a year but the place is amazing.
