there must be something wrong with it? How arrogant!

Abstinence has always been part of the Ugandan government's campaign against HIV/Aids but condoms have also been well promoted.

In September, South Africa's Deputy President Jacob Zuma called for girls to take virginity tests to help reduce the spread of Aids.

This was countered by human rights groups, who said that virginity tests were a human rights violation.

Notice that these tests are not being forced...

are they being forced to tkae the test? If not then I see no violation. If it is forced for them then that would be different. If they have a choice then it is their decision

Thank you. A much more definite answer. ;)

The men should be asked to take HIV/AIDS tests and get certificates if they're positive.

Or shot out of hand, whichever is more convenient. Problem is, that a certificate can be lost, hidden, and/or obscured so that those who are infected can continue to threaten the general, 'healthy' population around them. Before you say anything to the contrary, it's already happened here in the US. A man, who is HIV positive, was having unprotected sex with women for at least 4 years...knowing full well of his condition. He's now in jail, but that didn't help the 5 women he gave the disease to...and who's to say they don't do what he did?

The problem is that a consensual virginity test might not be consensual. In other words, foisted upon the girl in question by whomever. It also has SOOOO many ways of being abused, in terms of not using it for the AIDs test, but instead as a means of ensuring that the 'property' is not soiled.

Wanna know what. I think it's incredibly stupid. Wanna know what else. Let the Ugandans take it up with their government. Hell, a better idea would be for the Ugandans to get a government. Either way, who are the "human right groups" to interfere? The human rights groups cause more misery than the idiotic plan they are trying to stop, half the time (or more)
