So much for 'Poker night in Canada" - NHL may be back

NEW YORK (AP) -- The NHL and the players' association reached an agreement in principle Wednesday on a six-year labor deal, ending a lockout that wiped out last season.

The sides met for 24 hours starting Tuesday afternoon to hammer out the collective bargaining agreement that will return the NHL to the ice on time in the fall. In February, commissioner Gary Bettman canceled the season, making the NHL the first North American sports league to lose a year because of a labor dispute.

``It's a new day,'' Philadelphia Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock told The Associated Press. ``It's pretty exciting.''

Ok, so apparently two of us care so far ;)

Like I've said before though, college hockey is more entertaining. Maybe with the rule changes the NHL game will be opened up a bit.

What gets me is that the players actually had a better deal before the lock-out, didn't sign it then and will most likely sign it now.

In the meanwhile, all the fringe companies and employees of the various arenas paid a higher price than any hockey player or owner.

I am curious as to how the new rules will play and how long they'll last. It'll be awhile before they get my money though...quite a while.

My kid heard this and asked to go to an NHL game.

I told him we still won't be able to afford it, that we have to make our own hockey. I may cough up for an OHL game or three this winter.

This is good for me only in that I own SIRI stock, and SIRI has NHL broadcasting rights. On a more personal level, I caught this quote the other day:

NHL Player Jeremy Roenick said:
I will say personally, personally, to everybody who calls us spoiled, you guys are just jealous, and screw you guys, because we have tried so hard to try to get this game back on the ice . . . We are trying to get this game back on the ice to make it better for the fans. And if you don't realize that, then don't come. We don't want you in the rink, we don't want you in the stadium, we don't want you to watch hockey. Period

Hey, Jeremy! Deal, ya fucking moron! I won;t be there, and pretty soon, you won't have a fucking league! Forget who really pays your salary, you ass?

Oh, and BTW, :stfu: you fucking crybaby.

After a long....loooooooooooooooooooong year, it will be great to see the beloved Detroit Redwings suit up. Though it will be a slightly different team, I do no believe it will still be a greatly talented team. The new cap is going to rip some teams apart, but big deal, it will even the field and make the league more exciting in my opinion.
