Soldier's chilling warning

An Iraqi defector has told Sky News that Saddam Hussein will use chemical weapons if the country is invaded.

His warning comes amid revelations Saddam Hussein may be planning to use pilotless drone planes to spray British and US troops with anthrax and sarin gas if they attack.

In an exclusive interview, the officer with Saddam's elite Republican Guard, said the use of chemical weapons by Iraq was "100% guaranteed".

The 26-year-old soldier defected 10 days ago near the city of Sulaymaniyah in Northern Iraq.

Weapons

He is being guarded in a safe house and is said to have provided valuable intelligence to authorities.

"A chemical attack is guaranteed," he warned.

"We have been fully provided with complete protection gear, gas masks, first aid kit, injections."

In the 1991 war, Saddam Hussein deployed his chemical weapons but they were not used.

"We are sure about the chemical bombardment," said the defector, whose identity is being protected.

"In the last stage, he will use it as a last resort."

Fierce

He said Republican Guard soldiers will put up a fierce fight.

"When it is time for war we are fully prepared to fight into the ground. If we don't fight hard, they will execute us," he said.

The defector said Baghdad was full of loyal troops and special forces and the city would see heavy fighting.

"In Baghdad there will be a lot of killing," he added.

Warheads

The suspected plot by Saddam to drop chemical weapons on attacking troops emerged following chief UN weapons inspector Hans Blix's 173-page report to the UN Security Council.

The report listed details of missing weapons which Iraq had not accounted for.

They include 50 Scud B warheads and 6,500 bombs laced with chemical weapons, VX nerve agents and anthrax.http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-12265723,00.html

If such news was leaked out.. it doesn't seem like all that safe of a safe house. I really doubt that the western coalition handlers would be all that keen on letting the press get too close to such a good info source. Sorry.. It just smells too much like an internet smoke and mirror job to me. [/set skeptic mode to level 3 filter]

agreeing with unc here...and let's be honest...did he say anything that the US didn't know already or at least has taken into consideration?

And if, just if, he was a defector. Wouldn't he be telling all kinds of stuff, just to get himself accepted? Refuge claimants seldom tell good about their homes. And the bad tends to inflate.

I don't even think it has to be an internet thing. Very possible also is the idea that Saddam is sending out folk on these missions. Scare tactics.

Sure. Doesn't this headline make it clear just how much propaganda one Iraqi can spead? Especially when there are so many people(like myself) that are straining to hear anything that any Iraqi citizen may have to say on the subject.
Saddam watches cnn every day. He knows how to manipulate the media.

A side note:

If there was anything that i learned from Dan Rathers interview with Saddam it's that Saddam is not as stupid as we have been led to believe. He did a pretty damn good job sitting in front of Dan for three hours without any advisors(Even though the questions were simple).

i thought that was already commonly known...otherwise he couldn't have gotten away with fucking around with the world community for so many years...the guy and his propaganda has been underestimated for quite some years, but the last few years that has changed quite a bit....or so i thought.

[saddam]IF you invade my sacred country I will devastate you with weapons that I don't have & fart in your general direction [/saddam]
