Someone has probably already done this one, but...

fi: you know what?
starting a topic without giving your opinion is bad taste, especially if it is as sensitive as this one.

so far only PuterTutor and myself have stated our opinions.

good point. Apologies - I'm relatively new to the world of discussion boards.

I think September 11th was the worst thing to happen in recent history. I was sickened by it. I cried watching CNN, and I cried listening to the stories colleagues told me who were working the phone lines in Dublin dealing with families of people caught up in it.

I'm not particularly fond of Bush, but I think that since that awful day he has proved himself as a good leader, a fighter, and someone who's willing to stand up against threats to his country.

My only concession as regards the initial statement is that I'm not sure whether Bush would have been able to demonstrate the same sort of leadership qualities had that awful day not happened.

That's my point, he is the same person he was when he was elected, but has suddenly gained much more respect from all the US than he has ever had. So I think your original statement was perfect, it was one of the best things to happen to him, as far as his political career goes. I think he'll win another four years, and most of the reason why is 9/11.

hey, i don't need to call you to delete something in the other forum :p

fi: this was a fine thread and as far as the opinion goes i have mine people can agree or disagree they have that right and if they jumo down my throat i will counter them i suggest you express the opinion cause people always give shit and yes this was a very delicate sensitive topic and your first phrase could have been easily misunderstood(as LL clearly showed) now i agree i ahted him from the beginning hwoever he got more respect maybe after it cause he started the whole "war on terrorism" which i feel should have been done fromn teh beginning before it happened. and ill admit that i am ashamed that i was complacent about how much i loved this country and after 9/11 i love it and would die for it. i wouldnt say its the best thing just politically its the best. but not in life. its too sad evil and pathetic that it happened. makes me sick so many innocent had to die for nothing where the fuck has humanity gone wrong?

How about this for an opinion: lay off fi. She wanted to post a new thread (her first?) to stir up a discussion. LL you should stop taking words so literally, I think everyone knew what she meant by her initial post. You're overreacting and maybe taking this too seriously.

Luis, let her post whatever she wants. Since when is it in bad taste to post a question without an opinion? I could be mistaken, but I believe Prof does it all the time. I know I've certainly done it, for my own reasons. If you're feeling unsure of yourself because you were one of few people who stated your opinion, don't tell fi she's doing something wrong. She isn't. And even if you think she is, you are but one person. Perhaps if she felt people valued her opinion, she would express it.

This is a great way to continue the typical pattern of things--make the people who have opinions afraid of expressing them. Lay off people, give her a break! :headbang:

Were the events of September 11 a boon to Bush's presidency? Yes. Were they a boon to Bush? No. They were, I'm sure, as repugnant to him personally as to every other American.

His is not the first presidency to benefit from war and tragedy. Washington, Lincoln, FDR, remember those guys? The real question is how well he's handled it, and I personally think he's done a great job so far.

i don't feel unsure about myself, i posted it anyway, i knew from the beginning that she wasn't expressing her opinion, i really don't remember what Prof does. but i think it is bad taste when you start a very sensitive topic without expressing your opinion, i don't mind other topics, this thread could have been understood as a "ok, here's the flame.....now you go fight while i watch".

anyway, is just my opinion.

A flame? You really think that's a flame/starting a fight? How things change--I used to be told I was *too* sensitive. Maybe it's just because I don't have strong feelings on the subject as it seems others do.

Hey fi--don't stop posting or starting threads. Sounds like you're a little taken aback by the responses to this one--no worries. Sometimes people get upset but don't let that stop you from participating. :)

And Gato, shut up man. Who asked you? ;) :D (now that's a flame)

we are going off-topic, i might used the word "flame" improperly, but i get your point and i think you got mine :)
