Something to ponder.

I was at my uncle's video rental shop picking up "Monster" (quite a film), and my uncle told me something about the movie business. He said that he finds it distressing that here in the United states films with extreme violence recieve low ratings like PG 13, where as any hint of sex and it gets a high rating like R or worse. He says that in other countries the exact opposite is true and violent movies get the high ratings. He believes that is one of the many factors that contributes to American society being so violent, and I am inclined to agreee with him. It seems sometimes that violence is just too easy to see on TV and in the movies. I beleive most adults can handle it, but is it the best way to bring up children?

Well then you gotta ponder why FH/911 got an R rating because the censors deemed it too violent.(but you don't have to ponder too hard)

that's a tendency that has been in the US for quite some while...violence isn't such a big deal, but if a boob/nipple/insert any nude bodypart is shown, america freaks out.
remember eyes wide shut? showgirls? so much fuzz about those movies, while it's ok that a 12 year old kid watches genocide and people being slaughtered...

Sex good Violence bad

In a persons daily life
which happens more often
Sex or violence?
How about violent Sex?:sex:

Are all of Markjs's threads this lame? "YUP"!

lol Um OK
so most folks don't go around committing violent acts
but hopefully they get to have SOME sort of sex life.

Now believe it or not there should be some set of morals governing your sexual behavior. Can you fault parents for wanting to instill their set of values rather than relying on
Hollywood? Maybe we need movies regarding the proper code of conduct for violence?
No wait we have the evening news for that now don’t we?

Back in the day it was bad too. You had westerns like Bonanza (one of my favorite show) where killing was accepted as a way of life.

I remember watching something like "Americas funniest videos" with my kid a couple of years ago. There was a clip where someones breast was exposed. My son was flabbergasted. Not because of the boob. But because the nipple was censored. He just didn't get it. It was just a boob?? :D

I have never seen it as a problem for my kid to se a naked body on tv, it is of course a bit different if that body is engaged in sexual activity. Still better than violence tho.

Never said that...just that I don't agree with their political statements.

BTW...doesn't all that sex and cursing on the TV damage the cabinet? Perhaps TV's in Canada are built a bit sturdier. ;)

Now I must ask, as it is in my nature, how does that improve Canadians?
They don't get as upset when you tell them to f*ck off? :D

but the kids don't watch the news...they either playing violent video games or out wrecking havoc. i think parents just ought to be parents and when something of unquestionable material is seen by children they should stop and talk to their kids about it.
