Sorry Gonz...

the first amendment is alive & well (if you aren't conservative)

Limbaugh issued a statement late Wednesday night in which he wrote:

"My comments this past Sunday were directed at the media and were not racially motivated. I offered an opinion. This opinion has caused discomfort to the crew, which I regret.

"I love NFL Sunday Countdown and do not want to be a distraction to the great work done by all who work on it.

"Therefore, I have decided to resign. I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the show and wish all the best to those who make it happen."

George Bodenheimer, President, ESPN and ABC Sports, issued the following response:

"We accept his resignation and regret the circumstances surrounding this. We believe that he took the appropriate action to resolve this matter expeditiously."

LOL...You act as though he would have let Clinton slide with a remark like that because he (Limbaugh) is a conservative....We know better. :D

He attacked the sports media for their racism, not McNabb.

Remember the SuperBowl QB who was asked, point blank "How long have you been a black quarterback?"

"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL. The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well," Limbaugh said. "There is a little hope invested in McNabb, and he got a lot of credit for the performance of this team that he didn't deserve. The defense carried this team."

In short..."Hes only there because hes black. " I am enjoying the idea of Rush having to swallow the same crap he has spewed for years. And, just as I would have expected, he cries foul...

In Gonz's eyes conservatives should never feel any repercussions from the things they say.

Of course the Dixie Chicks should have been skinned alive for insulting Bush. ;)

Rush Limbaugh: He's an arrogant, loud-mouthed, overbearing bigot. Always has been, always will be.

If you recall, I defended them. As the argument ensued I went from their right to say it to what they said.

He's all that except the bigot.

You really interpreted his statement in that way?

I'm no Rush fan, and I think he is one of the more dangerous voices in the crowd, but your spin on what Rush said is about as logical as Moore's spin on what Heston said.

Honestly, I don't understand this at all. Rush apparently has a problem with the media discriminating on racial grounds. Is that a racial viewpoint?? In this case, right or wrong, he felt that the media was treating McNabb differently because of his color. He voiced his opinion.

he'd fit right in here then, someone drop him an email

j/k - i can do without the fallout of having to close the forum :D

I dont know how much you guys watch the NFL, but I have been thinking this exact same thing for a couple years. I think they are desirous to have a black quaterback do well and there is a little pressure.

WTF is wrong with that.

Its so obvious that there are some absolutely spectacular black atheletes in the NFL, and folks are pulling for a great black quarterback to come on the scene. It would be a great role model, for kids and atheletes and it might even encourage some other potentials to follow their dreams of being NFL QB. (Just turns out this particular guy is sucking right now)

Personally I see nothing with this or Rushs observation of it.

WTF is wrong with everyone?

on the serious side, that's what I can't fugure out. What is wrong with people speaking the truth, good, bad or indifferent? Are we so afraid of possibly making someone feel "sensitive" about something that we can't say a damned thing anymore?

Screw that. I'm going down with the first amendment. I have friends of all races, nationalities, religions & sexual persuasions. I live, by choice, in a diverse neighborhood. I treat all people equally until proven that I shouldn't. If proven wrong, I have zero problem speaking my mind. I also have no problem speaking my mind to my friends. Sometimes it makes them uneasy because of my stright forwardness. So what.

Speak up, speak out & piss someone off today-you may learn something.

I beg your pardon, but there is a great black quarterback in the NFL. It's not Donovan McNabb, although he has the potential, certainly. Need I say more?
*cough Steve Mcnair cough*

RE the bigot thing; when Rush first started appearing on talk radio many years ago, his stands were much more racial than they are today. The more well known he became, the more he toned it down. Given his past history, this particular episode is not surprising, and while not racist by itself, still poiints out the underlying beliefs. Defend the arrogant SOB if you like, I have never understood why anyone listens.
