LONDON, Dec 29 (Reuters) - Britain may impose emergency cordons around London and other major cities to stop people fleeing after a biological terror attack, The Sunday Times reported.

The cordons would be enforced by the military and police to prevent people spreading infection to other parts of the country.

"Existing legislation is not flexible enough to deal with the threats we are facing," a government spokeswoman told Reuters on Sunday.

"On the setting up of health cordons, the law may need to be tightened in this area," she said.

A new civil contingencies bill would allow police and military to quarantine or evacuate people by force, The Sunday Times said.

Professor Michael Langman, of the joint vaccinations and immunisation committee which advises on how to deal with biological warfare threats, said there was concern that people in cities would try to leave after an anthrax or smallpox attack, potentially spreading infection.

"There will certainly be some panic with people jumping into their cars with their families to try to flee the city and avoid contamination, but they would be stopped," he told The Sunday Times.

What Gonz, you think the US wouldn't do the same thing if the shit hit the fan? That's only smart, I know, violating your civil rights, well, too bad.
 
It's a little harder to do in the US-Interstates, federal highways, state highways, local roads-they'd try, I'm sure
 
it wouldn't work in the uk either....you think that if there's a biological terror attack, there will be enough military personel to prevent millions and millions of citizens to leave the area?
 
So then basically you're saying that a small biological attack could work to spread it throughout either country, or perhaps even the world?
 
What I find amazing is, all the talk of stopping civilins from driving across the country. Even across Europe or the US. What a friggin joke. If you want to stop biological contamination, shut down the mass transit lines. Imagine, a terrorist cell, intentionally exposing themselves to smallpox or some similar fast speading disesae. Then, collectively, going to international airline terminals, railroad stations & truck stops. These travelers, whose very existence, at the moment, relies upon large scale movement, can become unwitting participants in a large scale meltdown. 20 sick guys on twenty airliners bound for diverse population centers around the globe. 200 sick guys on RR's bound for various points on the map & 200 sick guys hangin out in truck stops, where men are going to towns, large & small, across the country. Now, that is scary.
 
If there were a biological attack on London, I don't think that the Forces would be able to react in time to completely stop the sudden exodus of people.

After all, it only takes one doesn't it?...
 
if all the countries would just help the US on our quest to kill everyone we would no longer have to worry about this biological warfare.
 
I would have thought the first thing they would do in a biological attack is declare an immediate curfew and back it up with military force. Absolute lockdown with health bulletins broadcast at regular intervals on all radio and TV channels. Nothing moves, no people mixing, less chance of the disease spreading. Emergency numbers for anyone exibiting symptoms to phone for help and "decontamination".

At least that's what I'd do, but then I'm a bastard.
