Stoopid POS' shoulda been replaced a long time ago...

Logitech x-230 it is.. thanx Scott.

~$45 shipped with a good 5 star rating and decent power for the size. It sounds like a winner with price and quality.

We snagged one off of an Ebay seller for a few bucks cheaper.

I didn't know my price was that negoitable. Rob said order these ones, said they were a good value. I figured...fine.

Those Klipsch 2.1's are unbeatable for a 2-speaker, 1 sub system. I have had mine since they first came out, not a crackle or hiss yet... but they look to be a touch out of your price range...

I think we could have snagged some of those Klipsches offa ebay for roughly 100$ shipped... but it was a little out of the price range. We really just needed solid speakers to jam with music. There was no need for Quake Arena 18 point surround cavity surreal demon sound... although it would have been nice.

I've got this Klipsch setup. I originally just wanted the 2.1 but all Best Buy had was the 5.1. I didn't think I'd be as happy with the lower-end speakers so I found the room for the 5.1 and have been a happy camper since then, despite having to use the sub as a foot rest because it uses up all my foot room under the desk. It's fun making the heater in the next room buzz! :D

Be glad you didn't get the speakers in the first eBay link. Any speaker set that advertises its PMPO power rating is automatically crap. I bought a pair of snowman-shaped speakers for the bedroom computer for $3 that were rated for 800W PMPO too, I believe, and when I took one apart the speaker had 2W printed on the back of the magnet. So 800W PMPO translates to about 2W RMS, while the Klipsch system on the living room computer sends 60W RMS to each satellite speaker and 170W RMS to the sub. Of course, I didn't expect any sort of quality for $3... at least they're better than the speakers built into the flat-panel monitor. They still work... but they are also rarely used. In any case, you'll be a lot happier with the Logitech setup, especially since you listen to a lot of music and the computer is in a very big room.
