Mom danced, child died

Toddler was abandoned for 33 hours, court told
By SUN MEDIA

TORONTO -- Single mom Clara DaSilva admitted in court yesterday she danced the night away while her two-year-daughter was dying of dehydration in a sweltering apartment. Tiny toddler Adrianna Maria DaSilva was abandoned for at least 33 hours in a 35 C room before her mom discovered her dead on Sept. 9, 2002.
Clara DaSilva, 24, pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Ontario Superior Court Justice David Watt will sentence her in January.
Crown attorney David Wright outlined the facts behind the disturbing death of a toddler, exposing an irresponsible young mother who was drawn to salsa dancing while shirking her responsibilities to her 25-month-old child.
While Wright read the details, Adrianna's father, Mark Yetman, wept while holding a portrait of his "little angel."
"I thought she was an excellent mom, but I guess that was all a lie. She killed our baby. I hope all these horrible memories will haunt her for the rest of her life," said Yetman, who split up with DaSilva a year earlier.
DaSilva lied to homicide detectives about hiring a 16-year-old babysitter named "Kelly," claiming she paid her $50 in advance and supplied ample food.
Court heard that DaSilva owed her landlord and babysitter money and was being pursued by collection agencies. But instead of tightening her belt, she spent the last three nights of her child's life dancing, paying cover charges and taking $20-$25 taxi rides home.
As she usually did, DaSilva went salsa dancing at a club on Friday and Saturday night and attended "Salsa Night" at another club on Sunday.
While her mom danced and socialized, Adrianna was suffering from the withering heat in a non-air conditioned apartment which reeked of vomit and cat urine.
An autopsy revealed Adrianna had "severe diaper rash akin to second-degree burns."
Her regular babysitter, Erlinda Gayares, "noticed the severe diaper rash that the child suffered after four or five days at home." Wright said Gayares warned her mom that "Adrianna was not eating enough."

Sufficate the Bitch

I think she needs to go through what her child did. Some people just shouldn't be having children if they're that irresponsible.

and there's no telling how many time the kid was subject to similar
treatment, and just held on.

Finally...a good question. Most likely the father is unknown, incarcerated, or dead.

If you read he was at the hearing.. hugging a photo crying for "his angel"

Pity the tw4t couldn't have spent a little more time with his angel to realise the conditions the poor bairn was living in!!!

Perhaps he didn't know. If he doesn't actually live with the mother, and only has visitation-or-worse, then he couldn't know. It happens often enough to be a problem...it happened (the divorce-scenario) to me. Very simply, it worked out like this...the ex ran the streets, and I watched the kids. The ex cheated on me, we got divorced, and she got the kids. Now the ex still runs the streets, but the kids spend most of their time at grandma's, and the ex won't let me have custody because I pay child support...quite a bit of child support. Since she got physical custody, she also got the house, the furniture, the car, and evrything I couldn't fit into my luggage.

Unfortunately, that won't bring the child back. She won't do it again, but what man, in his right mind, would mate with her after this, anyway?

*sniff sniff* Smells like bull to me!

So they have no mutual friends?...Ones who he could ask if his kid was okay on a regular basis? No family members who always thought he was an alright guy?

If you wanna know you find a way...

"Ran the streets?" Your wife was a prostitute!?

But anyway... you'd would have a fair idea about your children's welfare bacause as a father and ex-hubby your visitation rights are pretty much guaranteed unless you're suffering from mental illness, addiction or were violent etc etc etc... by law.

If you're not married or even took a valid part in parenting then things are a little different...

I'd like to know how many other "little angels" Adrianna's father has and to how many other women!

Nope...just a bitch. No bitterness...just fact. She saw me as a ticket to a better life, and, when she got everything she thought she could get, dropped me like a bad habit.

No, and I apologised already.

What OPTIONS? And what does her being 22 have to do with anything? Last time I checked, that's legal age, and she's supposed to be an adult. And, given that the child was 2 years old, she was 19 or 20 when she gave birth, and at least 18 when she got preggers.

That has to be the stupidest thing I've read all week. She needs help???

Why are you bringing the father into this? Four or five days. Noticed by the regular babysitter. The article clearly states that the father hadn't lived with her for a year. Is he supposed to be getting intel from someone? If the regular babysitter hadn't seen enough to call Child Protection why would anyone have contacted him? And it was over the weekend that the child died. No babysitter in sight.

I skipped the "happened in 2002" part...

Again... if she was 18... then that only reaffirms my beliefs.

What? You had a humourectomy again? :la:

Why not? He's sitting there crying his eyes out for a child he quite obviously couldn't give a s**t about... HE should be contacting the baby sitter/family member/mother to check on the welfare of his "little angel" regardlessly!

A regular babysitter? Think of the kind of a woman that would be hired by a girl who's appartment smells of urine to babysit her child!

Must be an educated, upstanding member of society and certified childcarer.... NOT!

The woman probably had no idea about what to do about such a thing, probably only realised it was a problem when it was pointed out to her... and besides if she's getting paid... if the kid gets taken to social services... there's her income gone!
