So why are they so blue?

LONDON (AP) -- British pharmacy chain Boots will begin a trial program on Valentine's Day to offer men the anti-impotence drug Viagra without a prescription, the company said Sunday.

The initial pilot program is expected to last six months, and Boots will then consider whether to expand it to other pharmacies. The chain has about 1,500 stores across Britain.

A little help from OTC

Considering the 'British sex drive' - I'd have to say that the most they're get out of Viagra is blue balls. :p

Just close your eyes, brace yerself and think of the Queen.

I am 'the French' ;) I don't feel particularly sorted out. :D
And lumber-jackets are warm, keep you dry AND will help you pick up at a local bar :)

stereotypes are the core of humour...to be more specific, dragging stereotypes kicking and screaming into the light where they can be examined is the core of humour.

So if someone were to spout off about *insert race here* and their propensity for food stamps, welfare, laziness, illegitimate children, life in the hood, and all the other stereotypes it'd be funny?

I don't buy that for one second.

No...but if said stereotype is overblown beyond proportion, to the point where it is ridiculous (far from truth)..it becomes funny and gains social impact (in that it exposes the biased and the stereotype itself as that which is ridiculous).

what, you mean like the stereotypical English bloke getting drunk, and F'in and blindin' for no apparent reason?

nah, that's just plain ridiculous! :grinyes:

I still don't buy it, because there is a clear double standard in place regarding this.

So if someone were to spout off about *poor rural white folk* and their propensity for food stamps, welfare, laziness, illiteracy, inability to understand birth control basics, cousin-fucking, varmint-feuding, life in the hollers, and all the other stereotypes it'd be funny?

Depends on who you're talking to. There are negative and positive stereotypes for all races, genders, classes and ages....sometimes propagated by other groups, and sometimes used by the group they're meant to represent.

Allow me to use Dan (Larry the Cable guy) Whitney and Jeff (You might be a redneck if..) Foxworthy as examples of self-depreciation humour that works.

Glad you chose those.

Larry is funny to the extent that he uses Southern dialect but the bulk of his material is the same source as, say, Eddie Murphy...everyday life observations.

Jeff on the other hand sells his heritage for a dollar. He has done more to harm Southern ways of life than you'd ever imagine.

So it's all a matter of which side of the stereotype you happen to be on. I ain't got a problem with funny stuff told with a Southern accent, and even pointing out realistic things about the area that are humorous. My problem comes in when the teller ridicules.

I also don't appreciate Larry doing the voice in the movie Cars. IMO, he sold out on that one.
