Coming soon to a town near you:

-- I bear witness that there is no divinty but Allah
-- I bear witness that Muhammad is Allah's Messenger
-- I bear witness that Muhammad is Allah's Messenger
-- Hasten to the prayer, Hasten to the prayer
-- Hasten to real success, Hasten to real success,

Or at least to a Detroit suburb:

City gives tentative OK for Muslim prayer calls
April 21, 2004

The Hamtramck City Council gave initial approval Tuesday night to allowing mosques in the city to broadcast the Muslim call to prayer over loudspeakers.

The issue, which has divided many of the city's Muslim and Christian residents, has attracted national attention and has evolved from a debate about a noise ordinance to one about religious freedom and tolerance.

Tuesday's meeting became contentious as many residents of the 2.1-square-mile city said the call to prayer would add to noise pollution.

Others said they didn't want Islamic beliefs imposed on them. The prayer, which is in Arabic, occurs five times a day from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Where are the atheists/protesters who have been against 'one nation under God', 'In God We Trust', and the 'Ten Commandments' in a courthouse? Religion is religion, isn't it? Surely it can't be because it is all about the Muslims, and Muslims are our 'friends'?

Christianity is more prevalent though I will say this. If they protest one they should do it for all of them not just one.

I wouldn't mind a bit of shouting over the speakers :)

Sound better than those goddamned church bells every Sunday morning :alienhuh:

Well, as an atheist, I just don't see what the big deal is. You have a right to participate in your religion, I have a right not to. I'm like freako though, if you're going to allow one, you have to allow them all. Fair is fair.

One point though, we do all understand that Allah is simply the muslim name for the god of Abraham, the same god the jews and christians worship, right?

Shhh...you'll make people start to think. :eek8:

The Muslims would say yes. the Christians and Jews would not

Incorrect on the whole. The Jews, especially, know the many names of Jehovah. Many, if not most Christians also know this. There are a few numbskulls though.

Until they shut the stupid Catholic bells up this, I suppose, is fair & equitable.

The general number of Christians, Muslims & Jews all recognize some variation of the name Jehovah as their God.

the Christians and Jews Ive heard say they dont. the Muslims arwe the ones who say it is all the same

Not quite.

They all recognise the same God (Jehovah, Yahweh...wotever). But they follow the teaching of different prophets, suppsedly sent by/recieved the word of the big fella himself.

Prophets...yea, that's the word I couldn't think of.

What Oz says is it, now quit bugging me, I'm watching the game :D

This isn't the government giving the message. Want to silence the bells at every church in the country while you're at it?

PT in his defense(though I am not really defending him) the atheists do protest a lot of this. now your right in that its not govt and if they silence the loudspeakers they should silence the bells. but if they protest Christianity they should protest all religions. though I am one to say all or none to keep it equal

Is that where the quote came from? I had done a quick search on Google, and all I got for hits were pages attributing it to "unknown," and pages selling a video slamming Jehovah's Witnesses.

Church bells toll once a week, and ring to mark the hours in a day.

"The prayer, which is in Arabic, occurs five times a day from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. "

2 minutes a prayer call, roughly 5 times a day. And in the mother tongue. Hurray for cultural diversity.

What's not to love about that?

:winkkiss:
