What a nice sentiment prof, but one I have to laugh at. The ability to lie is an evolved trait; we have the ability because it serves a purpose. If always telling the truth was unquestionably better, we would likely have evolved differently. While I share the same ideas as you for the most part, I realize like sam that in some cases telling a lie does less harm than telling the truth. No, not nearly as often as people would lead themselves to believe, but circumstances do exist. As for this specific circumstance - well if you can't take a joke...

Why, for Christ's sake? It was dead, and it should have stayed that way. No one had posted to the damn thing for two days. What's the point of wading in now and stirring the shit up again?

The truth is very important to me, i always try to speak with the truth. In fact, most of the times i don't lie, i just don't tell the whole truth.

Many friends like to come and talk to me, because i just tell them how things are instead of being "sympathetic" with them. A while ago, a friend was having problems and she said she was so bad that she could not take talking to me, that i would hurt her instead of helping her, i just said "ok", but i started to think how stupid people really is, they can't handle the truth, and even worse a truth they already know, instead, they want somebody telling them lies.

As for "my word", most people know they can trust me, i always keep a promise, unless i'm unable to.
