BAGHDAD, Iraq, April 27 — The United States is shifting its major air operations center for the Middle East from Saudi Arabia to Qatar, the first step in what is likely to be a significant reduction of American forces in Saudi Arabia and a realignment of American military presence in the region, senior military officials said today.

It's a start of an occupation. This is not good. We accomplished what we were trying to do, I realize it's going to take some time before we can just leave, but I think setting up a new base, and moving out of another base is a bad idea at this time. We're going to hear alot of screaming and "I Told You So's" the next few days.
 
The "occupation" is of a country that has invited us in & the start is clearing out of SA, leaving open many possibilities.
 
True, but I'm just worried we're going to turn Iraq into our Middle East Military base. Obviously NOT what we said we were going to do nor what the people of Iraq want.

Not sure how you're reading this, Gonz. How can we be invited by a country without a government? And if we're recognizing a government that we installed, thats even worse....
As for pulling out of SA, if we planned any aggression there, we wouldn't give up established power bases. I would think its to appease the Saudis and let them win back favor with the rest of the muslim world...
 
Didn't read the link ,but are Squig and PT maybe thinking Qatar is in Iraq,instead of being a seperate Country?:confuse3:
 
Oh shit, I could have sworn that was a town in Iraq. Ok, I need to read the links I guess. I'll get back to this one when I get home.
 
I knew it to be a country. Thats why I was confused on Gonz's reading of it...
