I don't think China would ever consider it. Their economy is all but handcuffed to to our consumer hunger for their cheap goods. Shutting us out would hurt them 10 times more than the US.
I'm always hesitant to post such far out ideas. But thanks to my lack of social intelligence i have little shame when it comes to being laughed at. I think it's always a good idea to take even the most radical ideas into consideration especially when they are based on sound ideas.
Logical ideas behind this thought:
The US is hated world wide. This is a fact, not something the liberal media(which i so much dispise) has concocted. Sure we are also loved but among humans hatred is a most powerful motivating force(one of my favorite truisms).
China has been working for years to make as many EU exclusive deals as it can primarily because they would rather put money anywhere other than us pockets.
Does anyone doubt that any of these nations given the opportunity would much rather deal with each other than the US on all fronts economic and otherwise?
This idea may seem 'out there' but i worry about the US when i see so much hatred throughout the world directed at us.
I'm sorry Hex, I really don't mean to laugh At you, it's just that I think the idea is ludicruous, there are far too many countries that rely on US support, both in trade and in foreign aid for them to effectively put sanctions against us.
I do see where you're going with the hate thing, and it does bother me too, but I don't see any retaliation coming economically for quite some time.
It actually isn't out of the question. The very thing we despise them for works to their advantage here. Their people are much more able to endure true hardship than Americans. We have, in our bounty, become soft.
Be cool if we could rearrange the order of the posts sometimes, wouldn't it?
That is true, Squiggy, we are soft in general, and are used to having plenty of food at the grocery stores, 50 or 60 different styles of jeans to choose from at each store, but the thing is, if we don't buy it, who will? Sure, we may do without, but the country that sold us those goods will do without the income from them as well. Even in something as simple as clothing, if the material doesn't come from another country, chances are the labor to sew the clothes together was done in another country.
And, with regards to the other point (inspections), Thats what I meant when I said we are writing new rules and better write them carefully. Wetoo, will be expected to live by them.
Mind you i was for that action.
But make no mistake the UN changed it's laws in order to undertake that action. Since the country had elected officials and its strife was national and not international and did not threaton other nations.
