I can't believe nobody else posted this. You guys are getting slow in your old age.

Less than 48 hours after the American people spoke, the UN reacted. I guess they think we're serious now. Ok saddam, here's your final warning, this time it won't be the UN who gives you another final warning.

Clock Ticks for Hussein After Security Council Vote By PATRICK E. TYLER[/siz]

WASHINGTON, Nov. 8 — In winning the Security Council's unanimous support for the resolution on Iraq today, the Bush administration has now orchestrated the final steps toward disarming Saddam Hussein, leaving open for only a brief matter of weeks the question whether that will be accomplished by war or peaceful means.

To avoid war, the Iraqi leader has seven days to accept the resolution and pledge his compliance. Within 30 days, by Dec. 8, he must produce a full and accurate list of Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and secret ballistic missile developments to demonstrate that he is ready to become the primary agent of his own disarmament.

By all accounts, United Nations inspectors will do very little inspecting and will base their appraisal of Iraqi cooperation on the accuracy of the "confession" that Mr. Hussein will have to make about the weapons projects whose existence he had denied and which administration officials have said he has been hiding in secret bunkers, underground caves and mobile laboratories.

To declare himself in effect a liar and a fabricator, a number of experts say, will be a significant trial for Mr. Hussein. He is an absolute dictator, and his self-image and ruling mystique depend on never humbling himself before a rival or another power.

as if this resolution was developed only after the american people spoke
the UN KNOWS the US is serious about this, and the UN is serious about the whole situation as well.
IMO this is still an empty resolution because the UN is saying Hussein MUST cooperate or else....

but they didn't say what they will do if Hussein DOESN'T cooperate. they should make a stand TOGETHER with the US and England and say that the other countries in the UN will assist in disarming Hussein if he doesn't cooperate. That means military power.
Both by the US and the rest of the UN.

So we can be pretty sure Hussein will fuck the UN once again. I see no reason at all to believe that he WILL comply to the demands made by the UN.
For the US it's a good development, because if Hussein doesn't cooperate, they'll have reason enough to attack Iraq, and the WILL have the support of the UN when doing so.

I wish that the other countries in the UN would have the balls to cooperate if it comes that far.

I concur with Shadow. From the little I've read it sounded as if France, Russia and Syria pulled the teeth from the resolution. They wanted to make sure that the wording would not serve to automatically trigger a US military response if Hussein didn't comply. It will be up to the UN Security Council to decide if and when military force is actually used. Given that Russia and France have veto power on the Council, and given that both of them are currently in bed with Saddam's government, I'll be surprised if they ever give the go ahead for a war. Perhaps they'll use the time to negotiate with the INC for some sort of guarantee on their oil contracts. If they can reach an understanding with the INC, they might switch their stance.

On another note, the storms are beginning to brew within Iran. The CIA has been counting on this and i think though Iran will be in the background in the coming years, these events could be the beginning of the downfall of Irans current governing body.

I've just been out of the loop lately because of my video card upgrade. Its given old games new life and allowed me to dabble in the new. I've just been a little distracted as well as suffering a touch of burnout after watching so much of the election coverage.

well except that that the proposed regime to take saddam's place given the desired outcome of regime change is actually currently based in iran im not sure they are lloking for iran to tumble too quickly

those weapons inspectors couldn't spot a turd at 40 paces. :D

that brings up another interesting point, how often do you think Saddam goes to the bathroom? i'd surely hate to be the rat that ends up swimming in his excretions.
