Shiite Muslim Mohammed Jomahaa cuts the head of his son with a sword during the annual ritual to mark Ashoura Day in the southern Lebanese town of Nabatiyeh, Tuesday March 2, 2004. Ashoura day marks the Shiite Muslim's commemoration of the 7th century killing of their most revered Saint Imam Hussein. Al Hussein was a grandson of Islam's prophet Mohammed and is a symbol of martyrdom for Shiites. (AP Photo/Mohammed Zaatari)

HOW SICK.... :disgust2: :cuss:

Was his son unwilling? I thought that was part of the ritual behind this event. To cut around the head and neck with swords and knives to represent the beheading of Hussein. Thousands of devout muslims do this even to themselves. Now if the son was being held down and not wanting this then thats another thing entirely.

Now now...these are the exact cultural differences we are to cherish & protect from the evil vile empirical American cowboys.

Cultural differences people. Respect them as though they are equal to your own.

killing kids like that is wrong Mark. sorry but thats how I feel tho I agree there are different cultures and such

They don't kill 'em, Eric, just cut them around the neck. It's a ritualistic thing, kind of like the ritual cannibalism in christianity.

what ritual cannibalism? I know there is a section of Islam where people cut themselves but aults do it as well as the kids and it has something to do with their religion as does this. i still dnt like the idea tho

Communion? The body and blood of Christ?
And you don't have to like it, they don't have to like it. If you're muslim you do have to do it though.

in the Christian religion I believe it is referred to as Holy Communion or Holy Eucharist....

Circumcision is another ritual that involves the shedding of blood, I believe... at least it did when I attended one that a Jewish couple had for their son years ago... :(

I had thought since they use bread and Wine it was not cannibalism. tho the bloodshed Natalie talks about I am somewhat familiar with.

funny how cultural differences must be accepted but not homosexuals being happy.

Or perhaps I drift.

Anyway, this is rather gross in my opinion. Do they just cut around the neck, but not behead? At first I read it as the father cut the sons head off. *lol*

Oh yes....I believe the culture that bleeds their children are indeed equal to those that protect their children.

Better kill them all then.

Incidentally did there used to be a link there? All I can see is a post that doesn't mention the age of this man's son...

The person who officiates the mass consecrates the bread and wind so that it magically (for want of a better word) becomes the flesh and blood of christ. Ritual cannibalism. What else would you call it. The word defines the deed.

By the way, it's not so much a different culture as it is a different religion. There are muslims who are part of our culture. Does anyone know if they practice the same ritual? A fundamentalist christian church in Nashville that supports severe corporal punishment recently beat a child to death. I'll try to find a link to the story. Hmm, I can't find anything on it at the moment. It was at one of those "discipline camps" where kids are beaten daily (often more than once a day) in the name of "the lord." A child was rushed to Vanderbilt Hospital and later died from injuries. I'll keep looking for the story. The camps position was that he fell down an embankment, but investigators though that was unlikely. I know what channel I saw the story on, and there is nothing on their website now.

Yes, there was a pic of a little boy with blood all over his face, and the father was holding a HUGE knife in fron of his face, but I couldnt get it in the thread. I seen it on Yahoo...It was a shame the way the little boy looked.... :crying4:

Actually its not even an islamic practice. Its strictly a Shiite Muslim practice (and not even all shiites do this apparently). If anything its a statement of defiance AGAINST the MUSLIMS who killed the grandson (?) of Mohammad. Its to comemorate that event. And from what I understand it marks the genisis of ths split between the Sunis and the Shiites. You certainly wont catch any Suni's doing this.
