But women across the nation say the patdowns go too far. Some are so angry that they have stopped flying altogether.
Then that is certainly your choice. But, if you want to fly, this is the rules.

“I was almost in tears,” she said. “I’ve never been so humiliated in my life. It’s one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had to endure.”

Pretty sheltered life if a security pat down ranks as one of the worst experiences of your life.

Shut up, go get in your SUV, get back in your curbed-sidewalk suburban anonymous development, turn on Dr. Phil, and quit rurinin' my life!

“I will go to great lengths to avoid flying now, because patdowns make me feel dirty and ashamed,” she said. “It just gets worse every time. Now I’m afraid.”
I think that's my favorite. Go to great lengths huh? Yep, pretty fucking hard not to get on that plane. Pretty damn hard not to get in that airport. Shut the fuck up.

“Post-9/11, we have all come to accept a certain level of inconvenience and intrusion,” she said. “I will tolerate that. But you want to touch my body, you better have a damn good reason, and they don’t.”
“We don’t enjoy” the patdowns, “but sadly, past experience shows that terrorists have used every category to attack, wound and kill thousands,” A.J. Castilla, a screener at Boston’s Logan International Airport, said.
Yep, not a very good reason.

If she thinks a pat-down is bad, she should ask for the BCS (Body Cavity Search) ;)

Female perspective here...

*CB looks down top...

yeah.. female.

I think the issue is malpractise during the pat downs... like males carrying them out and not using the backs of their hands as stipulated...

Imagine if it were your daughter or wife... who was essentially groped.

Would you still think it were trivial?

I would say it is whining unless the one doing the searching is enjyoing it too mcuh or something like that. But generally it is whining. Like PT siad its the rules

First of all, they do use the same sex to perform the pat-downs. Yes, they don't use the back of their hands all the time, but why don't you try identifying different objects with the back of your hands and see how that goes.

My wife or daughters? They would be told up front that it's a possibility. I would stay there and watch if I could.

What do they need to do.. distinguish between a Kalshnicov or another make of rifle stuffed in a bra?

Backs of hands will surfice until an irregularity is detected!

So you're going to accompany them for every singler flight they will ever take in their lifetime?

I suspect these complaints are from lone female travellers.

Ever see plastique? C-4? Didn't think so. Yes, the world has come to this. Deal with it.

The bits that I have bolded are sticking points for me. The backs of the hands wouldn't do in my opinion. The palm of the hand is far more sensitive that the back of the hand and is more likely to pick up irregularities than the bac when it comes to finer things like thin wires.

Secondly. Those lone female travellers are overreacting. If I was travelling on my own like I was earlier in the year and I got patted down by a female airport officer I would feel the same as if a male officer was doing it. By that I mean I'm damn glad airport security are doing their jobs making it safer for others to travel. If you don't want to be subjected to random searches, don't use secure transport. Get over it.

The fact is, there are some things that could be placed inside a padded bra that need to be, erm, felt to discover...like RDX, C-4, or Semtex.

Actually...the complaints are from lone female travellers. They are complaining of being groped. While I don't condone the 'groping', I do think that this is a rather minor thing to complain about. They want safety, yet refuse to participate in one of the controls that make them safe. Since all of these searches are done by persons of the same sex as those being searched, I see no problem with it...if the searches are totally random. I think the main problem is not the searches, but who is being searched, and who is doing the searching.

What she gonna have... it strapped to her like a third breast?

Hell... if they were that determined to inflict harm she would just fanny it and without a strange shuffle or an explosives dog no one would be any wiser...

And FYI its not the "World" just "America" thats come to that...

Ah, aren't you quaint? So the airlines in Russia weren't real? The bombings in Italy, they were just make-beleive? This is a world problem, CB, whether you choose to see it as such or not.

Well I think that is a problem!

It should only be individuals who raise suspicion that are frisked.. or everyone....

Having to endure what could be a very uncomfortable experience because you're the fourth woman in line or have SSSS printed on your card...

Not acceptable in my book!

I'm not saying that bombings aren't a world problem (but in no way as epidemic as the Yanky fearfactory...sorry the White House...would make out) I'm saying that its only America to have this excessive reaction!

Actually, PT, the rest of the world has been using other technologies for several years. The US was relatively safe because of the distances involved in getting here. International air travel has made this whole mess possible. The reason we got caught was because we weren't prepared. This picture is a walk-through Ion Scanner at Heathrow Airport.

Notice the manufacturer. Why didn't the US have these at international airports? Money.

I wonder how many female passengers on the flights that were crashed on September 11 would have traded those seats for a pat-down, if given the choice 30 seconds before impact.

Just something to think about.

No, I don't approve of ladies being groped in the name of security. I also don't approve of airplanes being hijacked and flown into the Pentagon. There are ways to accomplish the security functions without it bleeding into the land of inappropriate touching. I feel reasonably certain that it is accomplished in all but a miniscule percentage of cases. Were my wife or daughter among those needlessly groped, yes I would be upset. Had they been among those on one of those planes on 9/11, I'd be a whole lot worse.

We the freedom loving law abiding citizenry didn't do anything to mandate these security measures. They were thrust upon us by the works of madmen with no regard for human life. If human life is forfeit, I'm pretty sure your comfort level at having your boobs squeezed was also not among their concerns.

See that right there is a problem. If you don't look suspicious you ain't gonna get frisked so that negates the security teams efforts. Of course the suspicious ones get pulled to one side at some point or another but there needs to be random checks too in the same way that random drugs checks catch people out.

And C4 is very malleable and can be stretched amazinly thinly Claire....you could cover yourself in enough to blow are large (10 footish maybe....extra help please Gato on the actual destructive potential of someone caked in C4 under their clothes :eek6: ) hole in an aircraft in flight.

Wow! wow! Hold the phone!!!!!

You guys don't have high powered metal detectors? Explosives and drugs sniffer dogs in terminals?

The pat down is your only defence?
