Will things change, now that the Republicans have all the power? 51 in the Senate, 226(+8 over majority) in the House & the President.

Will politics as usual go on, will things improve as promised or will the country go to hell in a speeding rail car?

If it would have been 50-50 in the Senate one of the Republican senators was going to do one of those Jeffers defections in an undertable deal.... but since it was 51... theres no chance of it.

I demand that the old 'contract with america' rah rah that they came up with years ago be instated and follwed to the letter. I don't expect it to be quick at all because of filibusters. You need 60 in the Senate to brush that aside.

I think rich people should love having the Republicans in power. Poor sob's like me wont have a chance. I'm already used and fucked.

Hmmm...I'll give that one a try...

Tax cuts for the rich, and greater tax burden on the ever-shrinking middle-class. Increased military spending. Decreased spending on infrastructure.

Democrats are the same way. Just switch rich with middle-class and switch social programs with military. Same BS, different label.

If the US was really interested in doing something, then they would do the following 4 things...

1. Standard tax rate of 10% with no deductions. Less paperwork, smaller IRS, and better handle on who is getting the money and why.
2. Three term limit for all federally elected officials.
3. No federal aid for able-bodied and mentally stable individuals over the age of 18 and under the age of 65. Also no aid for more than 2 children out of wedlock (Gonz's favorite word).
4. The federal fuel tax will be $1.00 per gallon, with all proceeds going to infrastructure and public transportation, period. Sorry Gonz, but that will include diesel fuel. Of course, for commercial drivers, you can add that to your expense bill when payment is due for a delivery. Also, outlaw that stupid .9 cents. Anyone else here hate that?

You should try it Squig. You get to eat caviar-o's for breakfast and wipe your ass with crisp 20 dollar bills.

Thats what the country club doctors are for. A few uppers for breakfast, a little botox for brunch, a 5 martini lunch, liposuction in the afternoon, sirloin of some endangered animal for dinner... served upon a polished bone dish yanked out of some other endangered animal, all topped off with a little 100 year old brandy. After all... you deserve it. Its hard work yelling at your household staff to clean everything 'just so'.

Sounds like you guys are as pissed off about your electoral system as we are about ours. Nobody votes anymore! Not that it seems to make any difference, we're fucked under labour(left) and fucked under the conservatives(right) and nobody else has a hope in hell of getting in. :(

Nah the democrats are just cranky on losing. Rather badly.

You had me cheering right up to this point & it has nothing to do with commercial vehicles. Not everybody drives. Especially in larger cities, where it seems everyone does drive-at the same time. Can we substitute a 3% federal sales tax onconsumable goods except food & include a 3% import duty on all citizens bringing anything in the country, bought elsewhere.

Oh & make the FIT 7%. That's enough with a Constitutional amendment capping it at 10%.

How much is petrol (gas) over there? We pay about £0.77 per litre over here that's about £3.50 ($5.47) a gallon for unleaded.

It really depends on what state. I live in Indiana & gas is about $1.47 gallon while diesel is $1.39. We have relatively low gas prices.

Um, before you confuse everyone here... £0.77 per liter = £2.93 per gallon, which is about $4.58 per gallon.

I pay about 68¢ per liter here in Ontario. Canadian cents... Thats equal to:

£0.27 per liter, £1.03 per gallon
$0.43 per liter, $1.63 per gallon

Aren't you proud of me looking up the £ symbol? *hugs Character Map* I couldn't locate the euro sign though. Its the same as the $ anyways.

Euros are the same as $US, más o menos.

I think I´ll call the relatives in Winnipeg and ask if I can come to stay -permanantly!

Indiana, USA: $1.47 per gallon, $0.39 per liter

Ontario, CAN: $1.63 per gallon, $0.43 per liter

UK: $4.58 per gallon, $1.21 per liter

Starting new thread... this could be interesting... fuel prices are higher now than last time we did this.

I think we are the most highly taxed nation in Europe. Most of that is fuel tax, that's why we had the fuel protests last year.
