I'd be happy if they'd just fill in the potholes! :(

Ever notice how they always wait until the busiest time of the day or week to dig a hole, then go for a teabreak?

didn't you know? it's part of the speed-limiting program used by local councils. no-one can speed without owning a landrover or buying new suspension every 3months. :D :D

Oh, that must be why they're replacing the cobbles in the highstreet for the third time - it's a one-way, single lane, 20mph zone anyway - someone didn't lay the foundations properly - hence potholes! Not to mention nice big fat council tax bills for us.

When they say gridlock around here they really mean it - nothing moves! It's faster to walk.

nothing i hate more than bad workmanship. cardiff streets, pedestrian ones in particular, are appalling. the roads are a little better to be honest, nothing too rancid out there, apart from the m4 west [who really wants to go to swansea? ;)].

i saw a brilliant sight in helsinki earlier this year, the entire main shopping street was closed and being pulled up. no trams down there, narrow pedestrian access, horrible. but the reason was so cool, they were going to install under-floor heating to the entire street, tramlines, the lot. here in cardiff they can't lay a pavoir straight and in finland they are heating the things in -20c. man i want to live there.

I think we are the most highly taxed nation in Europe. Most of that is fuel tax, that's why we had the fuel protests last year.
Denmark's first income tax bracket is 44%. The highest tax bracket is 68%. In addition, they pay 25% VAT.

Yes here in Ontario they've been doing it for at least 3 years. And then when there are road construction, which is just 95% of the time, they put up huge signs for everyone to see:

Your Ontario Tax Dollars at Work[/siz]

Ouch! Remind me not to go and live there! If they tried that here I think that we'd finally have a revolution.

Do they pay Council Tax as well?

Without guns? :D Seriously, I don't know how the Danes do it... I'd cry myself to sleep if I have to pay 68% income tax, plus property tax, plus value added tax, and other stuff... :retard4:

went to copenhagen too this summer, the standard of living there is incredible, and its not much more expensive than london. i'd live there too, pity they decided to have a recession instead of hiring me. stupid scandinavian recession :(

council tax is paid to the local council for providing local servies [libraries, schools, dustbin colleciton, police]. you are charged depending on the size and location of your property so the bigger your house and the more affluent the area is the more you pay.

I'm not familiar with that tax. Can you please explain it to me?

It's a local tax based on the value of your property which pays for all the local ammenities e.g. swimminig pool, museums, council, policing, waste disposal, etc.

it used to be 'poll tax', one of the finest tory screwups. and then before that it was just called 'rates'.
