Because they know not to be absurd
the Jobs Bank, industry's best form of job insurance. It pays idled workers a full salary and benefits even when there is no work for them to do.

If'n I had a really good arm I could throw a rock and hit the Nissan plant. They make the drive trains for 'em in Decherd. They make Hondas in Maryvale, Ohio and my brother-in-law is the head of packaging design at the Subaru Plant in Cherry Hill, NJ.

I'd say they already do, but I know for a fact that they got a lot of concessions from the UAW before they did any of it.
 
They're also not tied to outdated pension plans which oblige them to continue to pay for no work until the geezer dies. We all know what's up with life expectancies. You do the math.
